You could probably run a company with 10 vans from a diary. Not disputing that and i don't think anyone else is here.

Window cleaning has massively changed. We get emails/texts/fb messages etc etc etc 24 hours a day. Unfortunately with the way that technology has changed us (for the better and for the worse) people who we pick up via a fb message who i have replied to within minutes of the message generally think that's how all messages will be from now on.

View attachment 6683 Last year a customer questioned a clean £12:00

Within 5 minutes of receiving the email his SOA was sent to him for the previous TWO years.

That's why I use software.

Now imagine a company who's bill is £850 and questions it. That's what happened in 2013.

Imagine a customer not paying a £42 bill. Each transaction is time stamped. So when it came to the court case. I won due to the evidence I provided which was digitally stamped. A diary could be easily amended.

Please see an example of what we have to send out.

One thing for sure is the tax man won't understand it
So you think that's a benefit? When HMRC don't 'understand it' they draw up a worst case scenario from what evidence they have and bill you based on that. I would rather pay based on what I actually owe and not what they decide cause they cant decipher my books.

There is a windy here in Notts used to have a lot of domestic cleaning as well paid all his subs cash in hand. One day gets a bill from HMRC and disputes it... 'show records' they say. He couldn't, got £46k tax bill. Said 'can't pay' HMRC said 'sure you can. remortage' made him remortage the family home he had already paid off.

You may think it's big or smart to try to dodge tax but you will get shafted in the end.

By your talk green you run an empire how much do you pay in taxes a year
Exactly what I was asked to after my accountant filed my returns. A figure that is honestly none of anyone elses business orher than HMRC.

I will tell you I pay my accountant £120 per month to ensure I pay a hell of a lot less tax than I would if I tried to sort it myself.

Not at all @CHWS he saves us a hell of a lot more than he costs us.

I am not in the business of wasting money, I am in the business of making it and don't waste my money on things that don't help me make a profit.

IMO you obviously do not yet need keep an accountant on retainer, however when you do you will realize that paying someone £120 actually saves you money then you will do the same.

Starting to enter in some info into Cleaner Planner.

It's going to take awhile to get my head round it but from what I've seen so far it looks v impressive.

That's only problem with CP at first it looks hard but the concept is so simple.

You create a job and fill in details. Each job has Togo into a round.

When you have all/some customers on cleaner planner you select these jobs and create a worksheet. This worksheet is basically a paper sheet for your day.

You mark off what you have done and how they paid etc.

End of the day sync and it's done.

It's hard to get started but once done. It's so bloody easy mate.

First question is: can you change the settings so that the Company / Customer stand out more than the address.

So in the example above it would be MC Convenience Store which would be first (and have a star) and then Lewes Rd showing further down.

Essentially a list of customers as suppose to an list of addresses.....

Hope that makes sense & thanks in advance

I don't think you can change that no BUT that's a good idea. So you mean in bold?

That's the sort of idea that can be put forward to ROB and if people think it's a good idea it will change.

The yellow star is only to indicate it's a new customer. That will go after first clean is complete.

Once logged into CP there is a forum you can visit /emoticons/smile.png too right when logged in on PC

Cheers Damo. Yes the bit in bold.

Think I'll just continue to settle into it and see how it goes. Only a small thing but if it begins to bug me then I will suggest it to Rob /emoticons/smile.png

My one major tip is if you are planning on growing a sizable round then start to use this type of software from the off as it is easier to learn quick with a handful of clients than to have to put in some 600+ over the course of a weekend and learn quick! /emoticons/smile.png)

I concur /emoticons/smile.png .......unfortunately I am experiencing the latter but pretty convinced it will be worth it. I have emailed my excel spreadhseet to them so they may be able to import some of it to move things along a bit quicker.

Bit like trad v wfp this lol

Mines run by diary for 6 years.

Up till last August had 400 plus customers. It was easy.

I have a spare book at home with all my customers phone numbers in it so I have 2 so if I lose one I got another.

You can go on for ages like this.

What if your computer breaks.

What if your burgled & have everything nicked including your back ups.

What if there a fire. Yes each to his own I agree but just coz you use a diary don't mean you don't have a good business.

It works for me & I don't want my head in a computer all the time.

LOVE LOVE LOVE CP. I'd be lost without it, so simple once you get used to it, it is setup for any size business. Reliable and just works and does what it is meant to. Apart from the odd server crash which are rare!

The best thing about CP for me is the debt list. I was shocked see I was owed £800. Its made me get alot stricter on customers who are meh about paying. But that's another story

The debt list is a key tool for me, allows you to view debts by round, this allows you to see which rounds are 'good payers' and which are 'bad payers'

I have in the past dropped an entire day off of my schedule in a certain neighborhood due to the whole round being bad payers.

It is much less stressful to not clean for bad payers than it is to keep these people on your book.
