Hi all i am looking around at my options for a van system. I have had a quote off pure freedom who seemed very good on phone. I don't know anything about ionics systems? And not heard great things about brodex so kind of discounting them. Any advice on your experiences would be appreciated or other systems reccomended. Cheers guys

Will your van carry 500 liters? What van is it and what is its payload? Are you going to process water into an IBC tank and transfer to the van as and when you need it or are you going to process water on-board directly into your tank?

Do you have the 'ability' to heat your van overnight when necessary?

Hi spruce,

On the hunt for a van at moment but it will be eaither a transit/ traffic or vivaro. I would obviously check payload but think all of those would handle a 350l but would check for 500l first. The systems I'm getting quotes for are to filter on-board I have a big driveway and outdoor tap at front of house and not metred. I know a local cleaner who uses oil radiator to keep van warm so could do that I guess. Just wondering what brands anyone reccomends good or bad experiences?

On the van front any of those options will easisly hold 650 liters plus all your other gear.

With Trafic / Vivaro there are two models SL27 and SL29

The SL29 can handle greater payloads of about 250 kg more I think it is.

I am sure Ford will have similar options.

There are loads of suppliers of van mount systems, they all do pretty much the same thing and tailor the system to your needs.

It depends on the flow rate, TDS, and water pressure at the place you choose to fill as to which filters you will need. Best thing to do is to measure these and then decide what your requirements are.

Someone with very low TDS will only need a DI Vessel, others in hard water areas with high TDS will need an RO, Prefilters, DI and softener.

I have used 2 different streamline van mounts; the smart tank is pretty good but expensive.

Smartank™ van mounted water tank systems suitable for WFP, window cleaning

Ionics are very good, but extremely expensive.

As you have said, dont go near brodex.

If I wanted to get really fancy and money was no object I'd go for this! (because orange looks so cool)

Van Systems & Components : X-Tank 500ltr

This is what I eventually went for because I was on a budget:

4040 Water Genie ULP RO Membrane Purification Package Complete

I went for the HF4 4040 RO, DI, 20" prefilters. IF you choose The cleaning warehouse, ask for Adam. He was very good with me, explained what I needed and his technician gave me a couple of pointers with some of the DIY.

If you arent comfortable with DIY, then they also fit systems to vans.

I've just had system fitted by grippatank and I can't fault it. Great friendly service, really good product and crash tested. Would defiantly recommend getting a quote off them.

Im sure their service is excellent as they are connected to gardiners I believe, though I could never part with 3k for a system I could put together for half the price elsewhere!

Thanks for all the advice guys grippa is not one I had heard of so will definately look into that one. Has anyone got experience with pure freedom?

There is nothing wrong with the Pure Freedom system. A couple of cleaners have them in our town. The current frames are made from stainless steel and they use the standard Wyedale tank. All other components are quality. Both these units have Shurflo pumps and Spring manufactured controllers. They are basic functioning units. If you are looking at sexy, then Grippa, Xline and Facelift do those. But they maybe more expensive.

P/F are in Grimsby so if you want them to fit a unit its a long drive up and a wait whilst its done. Grippa and Xline are closer to the south.

Back to P/F. Negotiate with them what you want and what you don't want. For example, you don't want their poles, so remove them from their quote. You buy those from Gardiners.

I thing P/F offer the r/o with 20" prefilters; those are better than 10" IMHO. You can reduce costs by fitting a smaller r/o unit - a 4021, but I would stick with a 4040. It produces water pretty quickly. If you are on a low water pressure then an HF5 membrane is preferred to an HF4, again IMHO. P/F like to offer the HF4 and charge extra for the HF5.

They also have the option of supplying a 230 volt booster pump. I would only order that if you are experiencing pressure problems.

AND YOU ARE RIGHT - STAY WAY FROM BRODEX. They have just gone in liquidation again so expect them to 'rise from the dead' with their poor after sales service and questionable business practices.

I have a 500ĺ pure freedom system. Customer service and after sales service are very good. Realy helpfull guys. If you spending the £ only do it once go for biggest ro filter. Saves time on filling. I Average around two hours to fill 400 ish litres . Always cheaper diy. I liked the fact the system has been crash tested though.

Thanks Eddie yeah the people i spoke to on the phone were really helpful and u think cos of cost and the comments are here I am gonna go for pure freedom. I'm the same I like the crash tested aspect and also getting them.to fit it will hopefully keep insurance down etc. I will go for bigger RO and probably the 350l tank. It's a long drive but I will have a day out in Grimsby me thinks!!

I use a plan for all my insurance. They were well happy when I said I was getting pf system. Vans they supply if mine in anaccident has pf systems fitted. Also down south so had the day out in Grimsby. Guys will drop you in town whilst they crack on.

Thanks for that Green I see you speak highly of them on lots of products in other threads but I didn't know they did van systems and fitting. I will bear them in mind

Chris,

If you are looking for a van as your posted earlier (not Transit T260 as it's payload is too small) go for a 500 liter tank, not a 350. A 500 liter will give you more than enough water a day as a single operator. A 350 may be enough for some days but will limit future growth. Nothing worse than having to finish the day early (in summer) because you ran out of water - that's from experience.

Buy the biggest you can. A small tank is like baby's shoes - they grow out of them before they have hardly worn them.

Buy the equipment to suit future needs, not just for today.
