I only use my heater when icy so cant answer the gas question. I recommend you get some 'hot hose' for the 'hot out' to your reel. Also double jubilee clip every connection (hot water loosens the hoses). The heater I use is a fogwash which has been outstanding for the last 5 years. I got it from aquatec, ask for peter.

Sorry for the absence of links tench, I'm a bit of a technophobe

I got my specialised hose from a company called 'hoseworld' online

Don't know if this helps but here goes. I use an L5 heater. My 19kg propane bottle costs £30-£40 to fill depending on where I go to get it. Heating about 1000ltrs/wk to between 35-45 degrees, it lasts 3-4 weeks. The hotter I heat it the shorter it lasts.

I don't know how cold it gets where you are PA but have you ever worked with hot water when it's cold? By hot water I mean 30 degrees plus. It's great. It gets me out of bed on those really cold days. A warm hose warms the pole. I don't even have to wear gloves for the most part, even to get started. Beats working with freezing ladders which never warm up during the day, hands down.

By warm pole, I'm obviously not talking to 30 degrees but compared to freezing ladders it's warm. The hose lays along the bottom side of the pole which for the most part is where you hold it so your fingers can feel it. I'm not a poet but I always think it's like having sunshine in your hands on those real cold days. And gets your work done. It's well worth the £60ish I pay for my gas for two months.

If you've never done it it's worth a try, believe me. I doubt you'll regret it.
