non payer

I hate this "just window cleaners" attitude some have

We provide a service which we take pride in doing to a good standard

No different from any other service provider yet some seem to look down on us or worse some windies think it is ok to be thought of like that

It's all about judgement.

If they look like a potentially ropey customer, I'll ask for payment upfront the first time to make sure they'll get in the habit of paying.

If I get a repeat non payer, then just move on, it will actually cost you more in fuel and time unless it's £20+ debt. Not worth it. Just part of business unfortunately.

This is why from the start now all new customers are told GoCardless is the onlybpayment option.

If they are proper granny age and always at the house then cash on the day is OK.

If they are the type that insist on cash payment from the off the that means their bank account is empty or they dont have one so want to pay cash to avoid the embarrasment of bounced payments.

'No I dont do online..... I will only pay cash' Rings alarm bells in my ears.

I'd like to hear any TRUTHFUL instances of anyone going to a small claims court for these debts also detail any proof that secured convictions I find it very difficult to believe this is enforceable, move on learn from it don't let anyone owe you more than 2 cleans unless they are long standing trustworthy customers.

your instinct, & 1st payment encounter will tell you if they are messers!!!I wouldn't let it go to three payments even with good customers.it doesn't matter if its £6 or £60 its the principle of the matter, and the fact they knowingly have allowed you to clean there windows with NO INTENTION of paying.you have two options, right the money off,or knock the the door every day until you get what you have worked for,i mean every day!!
that's more unpaid work isn't it can't grasp that?

i never have problems with people not paying, i have one women who goes away for 12 months and pays in a large amount when she gets back but we put a ticket though her door each month so she knows dates and months so she know's we are not messing her about. but i have had this same problem in the past after a while i just let it thaw out, as they notice there windows become black and horrible and then they get to a point of paying then if they ask me to do there windows again its payment upfront and price goes up 3x.

Got paid the night  and was going to get rid  but she canceled and said i will let you know when i want them done again :whistle: I dont think so :eek::eek:

Ive got a guy who wasn't going to be at his property when I cleaned it in and out. Cost was Au$350 (about 175 pounds). Said he'd leave the money on the table for me. Get there and no money so leave the invoice (7 days terms) on his table. Do the job and I got a message saying how happy he was with work done. Since then I've sent so many reminders. Reckons he tried bank transfer but must have keyed wrong numbers so got returned to him. Yet since that he's still failed to pay me. Three weeks later and still not a cent after numerous texts. Bloody annoying the amount of time and energy in trying to get one customer to pay up. Going to look into the small claims legal avenue if I don't get it this week.

Wow, always nice to be called a liar!

Why not go knock on his door? I would be starting to feel that everything he said prior to today regarding apyment didn't happen.

Stand by what you like mate

I know for a fact damo has done it and it ended up costing the woman a lot more than the cost of the clean and @Green Pro Clean Ltd has done it unless you are now calling me a liar

Don't forget i work with damo sometimes so know what has happened

Just because you haven't done it for whatever reason no need to call others liars

I have to be honest, I should go down the ccj route with a few old debts from principle but I don't mostly due to lazyness, I would rather Chanel my time and energy into other stuff, but I do think dropping customers if the don't pay once is a luxury that one should only afford if you have enough customers, otherwise you shoul let it run to 2-3 cleans before dropping.

When I get to my target customer base (100 per week) I will start dropping customers that show me nothing but disrespect, I offer a collection Friday night and I text everyone who owes for that week that I am coming round and the amount that don't bother telling me they ain't gonna be in or even worse tell me I ain't got no cash without texting me is a ball ache that I could do with out /emoticons/wink.png

Good luck with your debt whatever you all choose to do with them, I hope all that owe us windies money get stung by karma!!!!

I would like to make my position clear,

I am a professional and take great pride in my work, reputation and customer care, I do expect my customers to pay me soon after i have cleaned there windows. Cheques can take a week or 2 to arrive through post and on liners usually pay within a few days. Ultimately if there non payers and hassle I would stop cleaning them and just ask for money owed, end of story.

Fairshout to green pro for showing a pic of claim court paperwork, I hope I never have to go through that. Most commercial work I dealt with have 30-60 day payment policies

I cleaned a large school today,

Hard work and was ******* down with rain all day, I got soaked- 2 sets of clothes, hope they pay

OK that's a commercial job with invoices issued I was referring more to residential jobs where proof and no clear evidence of a contract is in place can't see how a conviction can be secured.

Yes poles apart I don't think it would be worth while or cost effective to go to court over a residential house like £6-£10.

I'm too busy cleaning windows to even think about doin that

For F's sake @Poles Apart. This aint my first rodeo and the one thing you need to understand is that in England a 'gentlemans agreement' is still binding in the courts.

It was not until I started cleaning the home of a Barrister and one morning got to pick her brains over a cuppa that I got up the nerve after her reassurances to file residential claims.

So far only had to file against three and all paid before court date.

Usually the final demand with 5 days to pay gets it settled.

As for laziness @Hunty the whole process took 15 minutes on line.

As for principle? I would file it for £5. You dont take the **** out of me and my profession and my pride and get to walk away. Simples.
