Licence in my area is £277 /emoticons/sad.png

I've stopped employing now because it's ridiculous to have to pay that every time you take someone new on.
That's crazy.....

In scotland they make you get a licence from the local authorities to allow you to work as a window cleaner

So you get them a licence and they turn out to be a right dodgy git and you got to sack em off, what happens? They now have a licence to clean windows on your expense?? Madness.

That is extortionate. Tempting to gather a load of windies and march into the council offices demanding to see their 'work permits'.

Pretty much Green.... My first ever employee got offered (and accepted) a job in Abu Dhabi less than a week after I bought his licence. Got in touch with the council straight away and explained.

Could I have a refund please? No

Could I have a partial refund? No

Can I transfer it to a new employee? No

Local councillor took it up with them for be too and they wouldn't budge!

At least he was in Abu Dhabi though, and not cleaning windows in competition with me!

What council are you with- Highland? Im with Perthshire: £150 for 3 years or £100 for 1 Year. I also have Fife license- cant remember exactly how much £80-100 for a year. Do you clean Landmark? Great place for wee kids and big kids.

Someone wants to go 50/50 and expand with me but I think paying 2 wages is a big thing.

This will be the greatest mistake you will make as you will at some point fall out then you need to decide who gets 50% of what?

If you are so busy you can't manage then you hire an employee to to do the work whilst you get out and drum up more custom.

When I first started out I started with a partner, it lasted 6 months, I would never go into a partnership again.

Agree with both above, one or both of you will always feel like you are doing more work than the other and end up resenting the other partner.

Example, when we started we just did pressure washing and gutter clearing, when I suggested we start window cleaning we ended up having an argument because he was convinced putting windowlene in the water was the best thing to do........

This is just one example of MANY.

The one that ended it was while I was pressure washing the block paving at the front of a local builders merchant he decided to sweep ALL of the dirt and dirty water across the entire car park, about 20 meters, to the drain on the other side, in doing so he ended up covering half the car park in dirt. We tried to clear it up but in the end I decided to go first thing in the morning when it was dry and sweep it all up, at about 6am, he was supposed to come and help but texted saying he couldn't make it.

Lets just say he has avoided me ever since......

Always going to happen. 1 or both will always feel hard done by, and that the other is not pulling their weight.

It just complicates everything, you can't make simple decisions as you have to run it by the partner all the time etc.

Partner I think would only work in a ltd business if say I run the window cleaning

They run the pressure washing

Cudnt see running one line of work together be successful

It depends on the individual situation

I have tried the parter route back in the old days of my london round and found that it makes friends fall out

If it is a case of 2 individual companies working together for mutual benefit then that does work as you are not tied to each other but can help each other out

Yep, Highland. I'm right by the border with Moray where the licence is only £93 I think, so window cleaners cone through and clean windows here on a much cheaper licence than me too which is very annoying.

I don't clean Landmark, but go there often with the wee one /emoticons/smile.png

Im gonna have r lass work with me 1 day a week come september. Shes on maternity leave but when she goes back to work she will only be part time so 1 day a week with me. Looking forward to it, told her shes going to be head of marketting...gonna get her leafletting whilst i clean.

My family all enjoy Landmark, wife n 3 boys, always go for the day out when staying at my parents caravan in Findhorn. Used to go to Newtonmore a lot on holiday to stay with my Uncle he was a gamekeeper. Been windsurfing at Loch Insch, nice set-up there. Regarding the Moray window cleaners, I hope they have paid for their Highland License, as you need one for each council, apart from North and South Lanarkshire think they don't have a license.
