I canvassed a few jobs yesterday and one was a lovely old lady that agreed to have her windows and conservatory done, the frames were really grim.

I knock the door and crack on and eventually the husband sticks his head out to say he knew nothing about my visit.

I explained that I spoke to his wife and he seemed ok.

Did the fronts and moved my hose to the back and knocked to get him to open the gate when he said " don't bother I've got a ladder so I'll do it"

I think ******** to this and pack up just as his wife arrived home.

When she realised what had happened she went berserk at the bloke, I could hear her shouting at him from my next job three doors up.

Made my day knowing the miserable old git was getting a rollicking.

She flagged me down as I left the road and asked me to finish off the job.

I declined.

She paid me for the fronts and I thought after the way he spoke to me it wouldn't be a regular job so why put myself out doing the backs and conny.

I try never to be rude to anyone and won't let people be rude to me.

The lady has just phoned me to apologise and to say her husband has early onset dementia which causes mood swings and stuff.

Now it's me that feels like an a...hole!

She now wants the windows done monthly, conny roof and fascias done as well.

I have a customer who suffers with dementia who I have cleaned for many many years!!hes vile to his wife, and doesn't know who I am.it must be very scary for people who suffer with this

Don't worry mate, you weren't too know.

All you can do is apologise, you won't be the first person that she had to explain to and won't be the last. Got 1 customer with dementia and she always says no, but I do her daughter's before and I have been told to ignore her and do it and her daughter pays, I nearly chinned her off as she said no 3 times before I found out. Apologise, be nice and don't feel too guilty, the fact she wants you to do more is a good sign

I've got an elderly lady with dementia. Often moans that I've missed a window even tho the glass is blown! Can get quite nasty about it but then tries to pay me 3 times while I'm there. Recently she told me she didn't want me anymore. I was sacked. I still went back the following month. Then she said where have u been. It's ages since I saw you! Cruel disease.

Definitely

I saw one of the sharpest witted guys down the allotment go from 100% fine to not remembering he took his bike there and then sitting at home for 2 weeks as he thought it had been stolen

Couldn't get in the allotment as he "lost his key" been a combination padlock for the last 10 years

It is really sad to see that happen to someone

He is now in housing so he can be kept an eye on as no family etc

Very sad mate. My dad had vascular dementia before he died in nov. Couldn't remember his own name half the time but ask him what he had for tea on the 4 sept 1942 and he could remember ( well almost)

I used to have an old lady, the son always locked her in the house so she couldnt escape. Really sad.

She used to just shove loads fivers out the letter box while i was there and i had to poke them back lol

Had a corker recently. Was canvassing in an area when I was told that a window cleaner cleans every house in the street. I said thanks for the warning. But due to being told this by so many people I usually carry on and find out for myself as I find I always pick a few up that have not been picked up by windys.

Picked 4 up on this road full of reasonable sized cottages. One was from the window cleaner in question as she said she had been looking for a new window cleaner as she said he was slap dash and used the ladders. So then went on to tell me that she had read up about ladder laws changing and would prefer the pole system. She was happy with the price which was almost double what he was charging. Around £18. Came to do it a few days later. And she was so happy to get them cleaned even the neighbours had asked how much I charged and subsequently picked up those aswell. Anyway to cut an even longer story short. Her husband came back just as I was finishing the last window. Said what the f***k do you think your doing. To which I replied politely. I was asked to clean your windows. He said he had called me and asked not to go ahead. No call received. I said did you call the number on the van. He said I spoke to bob he said it was fine. Never heard of Bob. He said it's ok I'm not paying as I asked my window cleaner about ladder laws and he said its fine. I walked off the property without a word. Steaming inside thinking. Why the hell would you want your windows wiped with a scruffy tea towel. He looked at the frames turned round and shouted. Done a good job.

He shall shortly be receiving a debt letter. Lol. So many clots out there that think it's ok to treat you like a sack of monkeys s**t

I was with you all the way until the scruffy tea towel bit

Some of us trad and wfp

Some wfp

Some trad

People need to stop having digs at the tradders

Wfp is just another method to clean windows

Don't mind trad at all mate. I'm not kidding when I said he uses his wife's old scruffy tea towels with tea stains. He really does. Haha. They are cleaner before he turns up.

No dissing the lads that are using scrims and microfibre. Majority take pride in the finished product

Until I read this I was about to tell you that my collection of "tea towels" cost me about the same as a Gardiner's 22 slx./emoticons/biggrin.png

I can fully understand your pain. Scrims are so expensive. Found them £3.85 per scrim. That's the cheapest I bought along the way.
