In my 5th year now. And was wondering if I'm the only Windy on the forum who suffers with a stabbing pain in my spine every once in a while.. I've been to the doctor who gave me tablets which made me feel asleep all day.. Had a couple of sessions with a Naturopath. Tried everything really. Running out of ideas. Anyone out there who's been there and done it got any tips on the best way forward. Just seems to be dragging me down abit at the moment... Cheers folks...

Hi I have suffered from back issues since age 11, not fun n quite depressing when it kicks in, fell off a pile of wood last week, as back was stiff.

Been of work today, ad jammed it taking out rockery at my house.

Recently tried a chiropractor. Cost about £120 for 3 sessions, seemed to work a bit for better movement, but pain didn't really go away.

Going to a therapist tomorrow that does craniotherapy and massage a friend recommended. All the best

Use to suffer with my back quite bad, Pick something up wrong and bang my backs gone. I do sit ups now as you need to stengthen your core. not had any trouble since "Touch Wood".

When your pain free try some, Start of slowly 10 one day then 20 and so on.

I slipped a disc in 2000 and had trouble for ages until i started using the machine at the gym where you sit hunched with the bar across your shoulders and straighten up to lift the weight

2 weeks of that and i was lifting the whole stack and no longer suffer with my back unless it is really cold and i haven't warmed it up first

Core strength is the key....planks..sit ups etc

wots your weight?

and height?

also van car seat thats not perfect can start a bad back.the seat base in perticular needs to be firm. you can repad a seat base[i use styrofoam tubing to make the saggy seat base like new again

done it to my last 2 vans after my back ached i promise u its well worth taking an afternoon to repad a seat

Hi! WindowSurfer.. Sorry.. too hear you've had a troubled time for many years. I've had issues with my back on and off for years. Always been in manual work and I'm 6'2 in height which does not always help with my posture. I've had a few sessions with a Chiropractor recently and at first I thought great. But. now I'm thinking it's not working. And it costs alot more than cleaning a house lol... Frustrating times at the moment. If things work out in a positive way. Would love to hear from ya..

So.. if you have a slipped disc. Will it correct itself by improving core strength i.e Sit Ups... etc

When you slip a disc it moves and then pops back and the damage is done to the surrounding muscle which spasms to support and protect the injured area which is what causes the pain and trapped nerves leading to sciatica too

Core excercises strengthen the muscles which support the spine meaning it doesn't keep causing the spasms

I had extensive physio and ultrasound on my back when i first did it as I trapped nerves etc and had the core excercises recommended by them

Cheers Daveyboy... I must admit.. The only exercise I've been doing lately is cleaning windows. I must start off with a few sit-ups and see where it takes me. Cheers for the sound advice..

im 6ft 1 and 14 stone. im 2 stone overweight . i know u can give the argument "im big boned" or "its mostly muscle"but you know and i know if you lost 2 or 3 stones your back would be fine . course thats not easy.

Sit ups are hard on your lower back at first

The best thing is planks when you get into the press up position and just hold yourself in that position as long as possible using your core muscles

A minute seems a long time doing that lol

Losing weight does help boar but if you have an existing problem with a disc etc it can give you gip for years even after you lose weight
