Help with tricky trad windows

WCF

Help Support WCF:

First pic, u can set up ladder either side of ledge, looks easy enough, on second pic u can either put ladder up on wall between window and were garage is but u may have to have ladder footed due to angle, just depends on gradient of slope, or if u any good using a pole to trad set of steps in front of ledge, tbh second pic looks like it could be walked on but it's one of them, it's safe til it goes threw and then it's definitely not safe.

Cheers for the reply Matty. I never realised just how many houses have these silly ledge things underneath the windows! I will deal with them as they come up I guess.

I been trad for 20 yrs mate, 80% of my work is trad, I reluctantly took on wfp a few years ago and it was worth the bother.

If u like me prefer to trad, and only wfp as and were nessecary u could av a small set up in ur van/car and if u use ur head it won't cost a lot.

Let's say u have 10 windows through out the day that are a right pain in the bum, and u think I could wfp them, then for starting off u only need a pump as the vehicle u drive has the battery, if u don't have a tank then a 25ltr drum can be converted into ur delivery tank

1 x shurflo pump new or used will do ( buy one off eBay and go to Maplin and change the pressure switch £3 ) more often than not this is the problem

1 x 11ltr di bottle to polish water

Bit of garden hose

1 x barrell

I could give u a length of 8mm hose which fits into normal garden hose and put dubilee clip around to keep tight

Everything u need could be sourced off eBay for less than £200 and if lucky u could get a pole in with that as well

The set up don't have to look the best, my set up is diy and does the same job as my mates pure freedom set up

Thank you Matt.

I don't do wfp but start to think i might invest for it.

How much of water is needed to clean about 200-250 show Room windows?

Can you do like 1 month wfp then the next month trad?

Just thinking of the ergonomic view point. I don't know if wfp and trad do use different muscular so could give a rest of my hands.

trad pole and a swivel squeegee is the answer . takes a bit of practice sooner you start the better

Am not sure how much water u would need, and no no no no no, once u change over to wfp it's not good to switch, don't get me wrong if u got a row of windows along the top wfp them then trad the lower ones

Do u have a van if so the bigger the tank the better, first tho get a tds metre off eBay for about £8, I have picked loads of little bits up for cheap off eBay but just get the basics to start off with wfp isn't for everyone.

Wfp using just pure water no chemicals, u will find the first clean is about getting all the dried up soap left around edges under rubbers etc etc off the glass, once this is done it's plain sailing

So Matt you say it is not good to change from trad to wfp and then back to trad?

I can not use wfp all around the year so could not use it on my regular customers.

Basically only work I could do with it would be those that clean only once a year. Sounds not good doing wfp only first cleaning. Looks to me that trad is what works best here.

Those porch things look a pain! I'm not sure if you could reach the window if you set your ladder on one side and then set ladder the other side of the porch? The porch is wider than the window. The 2nd pick you have 3 options.... Leave it, have ladder footed, or wagtail it.

Its fine to alternate cleaning methods on same window - i occasionally do it just to have a closer look as the brush doesn't sometimes get in certain places well enough ( upstairs sills etc )

Won't make any difference

The big WFP change over is after years of a window being soaped and squeegee - couple of cleans makes no difference

Cheers for this Tuffers. Seems like every other house I see has something like this around here. I will buy the poles etc if I get a job that requires it.

I am just waiting for my leaflets to get designed and printed then I am hopefully out door knocking next week.......excited and nervous!

Wagtail or excelerator on a pole and it's easy

Watch polzn bladz vids on youtube and you'll see how easy it is

I used to do whole days with no ladders trad like that

It was Bob (polz) who gave me advice and showed me how to do it

I used to do it like Wagga (Christopher Dawber ) look up his vids too but now i don't need to detail anything once squeegeed off

Cheers, I think I have seen a few of his vids and have just subscribed to his channel.

What is the thing called that bob flips over.....wagtail?

The wagtail is an aussie tool which is ok

If it is the blue and black one that is the new moerman excelerator which isn't released for sale until September

Look on waggas vids and that is a wagtail he uses

I put my ladders up side of porch I use a wagtail on a small pole works a treat , if I'm running late I just use a pole on the ground

No-one has mentioned an a frame/pointer ladder straight onto the mullion for the first picture. If that's to steep an angle then onto the facia above the window works as well provided your ladder is long enough.
