pencil VS fan

Using my new ultimate with my fan jets for the first time at the minute, seems to rinse OK on some windows, think I'll change back to pencil tho

Used fans for almost 10 yrs , then one Day used a buddys brush with pencils , Got really hooked on pencils for 95% of my work Now . A few is not suited but often never change the brush anyway . Love pencils !

I switched to using fans earlier in the year and loved them till I cleaned some cladding with them and really struggled to get a good rinse. As the pencils were still fitted to the brush I switched back them and the result was amazing. The rinse was much more effective with the pencils. My thoughts are that fans are great for light maintenance work but when you need to shift a bit more dirt the pencils win out every time. So for the moment I'm back on pencils

Hello guys .

Hello guys .

Been away for awhile , down in Devon refurbishing my sisters house ( near enough a rebuild ) my mate has kept my round in order , all the custies seem glad to see me back , I had explained to them that I'd be away for a while luckily they were used to my mate working with me so no problems .

I ordered a new brush with fan jets from X line a couple of wks ago , the one I had been using had pencil jets , there's nothing wrong with with one I had just thought I'd get a spare and try one with fans , the only difference I can see between the two is a bigger spread with fans when the pressure is turned right up way more than what I usually work at , does anyone know what the difference is meant to be between pencil & fans , there doesn't seem to be any difference to me under normal pressure ,apart from the brush with the fans cost more than one with pencils.

I changed the resin today when I got back , last couple of fills (25lts containers ) had crept up to 002 , anyway started the filling process with the new resin and filled five containers (125 litres ) casually checked the last one before filling the other ten containers , the reading was022 WTF ! After checking the vessel the top of the pipe inside the vessel wasn't nipped to the lid , good job I didn't fill the lot and start the offices tomorrow unaware of the TDS ,could have been a lot of spotting , I will be checking each container from now on LOL.

Cheers guys .

Glenn.

Fan jets are supposed to give you a wide spray (supposedly better for hydrophilic glass) so you get a more even spread on the rinse vs pencil on those types of glass where you get runs down the glass rather than sheeting.

The age old question. Think it comes down to personal preference as well. When I was cleaning I used pencils for some time then switched to fans and found them much better but I think pencils are probably better when windows are pretty dirty or first clean.

Pencils on standard flows ie general window cleaning.

Fans on mains tap pressure for plastics / conservatories etc, there superb on high pressure.

That sounds about right trev , l could definitely see the difference when I cranked the pressure up with the fans , so it's back to the pencils for the Windows and the fans when I do a plastic clean on mains pressure.

Cheers mate .

I have been using fan jets for years, one thing i would mention though is that fan jets can vary so much, i had some fan jets from the cleaning warehouse and the fan jets were brilliant, they used to sell the green ones, and then they changed to blue ones, which were okay but not as good as the green ones. The last month i have been using the fan jets that you get with gardiner poles, and to be honest they are absolute rubbish. I am going to drill my own holes and fit the blue ones from the cleaning warehouse, but i will try and source some green ones as well. So my answer to the question asked is, fan jets can be brilliant and some can be really bad. so try out different ones and you will see a big big difference, and thats not my opinion its my experience.

Just a quick follow on to the topic hope this can help, ref fan jets, like i said i have been using the gardiner jets and do not rate them at all compared to my other jets so i have modified my brush, i had two gardiner jets on my brush and they both snapped within 3 days they are really flimsy and very poor construction, I no some peeps have problems with fan jets, but i think its more to do with the jets you use , i have added a photo and you can see for yourself the difference in quality, the green and blue jets i have been using are really good quality. I have found out that with the blue jets them come in two different variations link below, i go for the 40 degree but you can get 60 degree.

link wont work so copy and paste into browser. But here is a comparison photo of the blue green and the gardiner jets, you can see the big difference.

I forgot to mention these jets i have had for nearly 9 years, you do get the odd blockage from grit and dirt, but you will get that with any jet fan or pencil, and this is not a criticism of gardiner, generally they sell good quality items, but regarding fan jets really poor. i used a 10mm drill bit to make the holes for the blue or green jets.

Here one i did earlier, although a 10mm drill bit it okay you do have to really wiggle it around, so if you find it to tight do a 10mm first then go bigger bit bye bit, i often use a counter sink, and the and the jets fit straight in, and use a little glue around the top of the brush were the neck is on the fan jet, but you do not need to do this, just use the drill bits, and i do a very little trim of the bristles were the jets fit.
