I Think I have Just Killed Thier Lawn!

I have been cleaning a patio for a couple who are having a little garden party next Wednesday.

After pressure washing there was still a lot of mould and black lichen I couldn't shift with just water so I thought I would do a good job and use some Paveclean from Sealers Direct I had in the van.

By the smell of it it is mainly Hypo but at what strength I don't know, on the label it says to apply neat through a sprayer but as I was using a watering can I diluted 50/50 with water.

After waiting 10 minutes I swilled down a couple of times with the pressure washer and sprayed the lawn with water.

I have emailed the supplier who reckons I will have killed the grass!

Sometimes it doesn't pay to try to do too good a job!

If it's hypo you should water the grass first

Once the vegetation had had a good drink it won't suck up the chems you overspray

Then rinse again after to be sure

If you only applied it to the patio and the grass was contaminated by the overspray/rinsing water it should be ok if it was rinsed well

If not it would only be the edge adjoining the patio that dies and should take a few days before it shows so you should be ok

The grass got a good soaking during washing and I did spray it with water again afterwards, if it is going to die lets hope it isn't until after next Wednesday!

Hypo kills plants due to the sodium left behind that alters the ph of the soil which kills everything

Hopefully you rinsed enough to dilute it enough to have no effect

Got to sand the drive tomorrow so will give the lawn another soaking then.

I feel really bad now, he gave me an extra £20 for doing such a good job!

How long before the grass shows signs of dying off?

You should be in the clear. The only time I have ever had a problem is when my pressure washer hose somehow sat on my sprayer wand and set it spraying for a good couple of minutes until it ran out of pressure. Then 20mins later I finish pressure washing the section I was working on and the grass next to the sprayer was all white. Even that recovered a few months later after being completely dead.
