so my misses was taken to hospital last sunday and the ambulance guy goes to me "arn't you a window cleaner i reconise you" and i could have told him i make adult movies but i said yea i am.

and he asks me what kind of window cleaning i do and i say "im a trad at the moment" and he goes

"Oh a proper window cleaner"

and i stand there thinking which ever way you clean windows is the proper way there is more ways to clean windows than just ladders and squeegy

has any of you guys who do WFP had a customer be funny with you for using a pole system ?

I remember people saying that when I switched from a leather and scrim to a mop and squeegee about 40 years ago. And yes even after eight years WFP I still get a few. As if doing them with pure water is not doing them properly.

I started a new job about 6 weeks ago. The lady confessed when I went back for the second clean that she had not been very confident that it would work when I had told her that I only use pure water. But she admitted to being surprised and very happy at the finished result.

hey Diwrnach yea the mrs is good now had to have gallbladder removed but will soon be back on her feet was let out on sunday thank god /emoticons/smile.png.

i was the same marko i was sceptical at first but when i saw how well it worked it makes you look at things in a new light

i am a tradder but does the odd window with my facelift backpack, and all i get is curiosity and customers is amazed i can reach high odd windows from the ground, and even more amazed that this "splash" of water acctually cleans the glass. That being said wfp is not seen so often here in my country.

I started a new clean last week. I know the custy is away as she text to tell me.

Voice cones over the fence:

Him: do they know you're here.

Me: Yes

Him: Cause they're away.

Me: I know that, she told me.

Him: Why are you cleaning them? They're getting replaced in a few months.

Me: Cause I got asked to clean them so I clean them.

Him: Dont know why you bother, I aint never seen a good window cleaner.

Me: (getting agitated now) Then you need to go to Spec Savers pal.

Him: You cant get a good finish with a brush and some water that's just a fact.

Me: Well you obviously don't know your facts then.

Him: Why dont you get the ladder off your van.

Me: It comes off when needed and it aint needed for this job.

Him: You use it by yourslef?

Me: Yes

Him: That's illegal, you have to have someone footing it at all times.

Me (in my own head 'oh for f***s sake)

Me: No you dont you can work on a ladder for up to six meters for up to 30 minutes a time without needing to tie it off. There is no law saying tou have to have someone foot it.

Him: I been in the building game for 50 years and I was a site H&S inspector and I done all the courses and blah blah blah blah.......

Me: Do you want your windows cleaning?

Him: No

Me: Do you have a window cleaner?

Him: No

Me: Are you planning on getting one?

Him: No

Me: Well some of us actully have work to do not just stand around trying to sound like they know it all so do me a favor and f**k off so I can finish my job in peace!

Him: Oh I was just making conversation.

Me --- (Insert headphones and crank up the volume on Metallica)

What a ******.

You have a lot more patience than me.......

i agree with DIwrnach lol it would have annoyed me trying to explain the science behind it when people don't have a clue about PPMs lol
I give the. The Dummies Guide to Water Fed Pole. Goes a bit like this:

When you wash your car with the garden hose and leave it to dry you get streaks and spots ans that's due to the minerals and debris that is found in all tap water.

The water I use is the same except it has been through a complex filter system to strip all that stuff out so my water is 100% pure, there's nothing in it to stick to the glass to cause spots and streaks anymore.

They always seem happy with that.

That's pretty much what I say when asked. You try and say more but they switch off as soon as you start talking PPM, TDS, ROs an all and end up no wiser and you've wasted precious time.

I had an old boy last month say "they keep making this easier and easier for you lazy lot don't they?"

To which I replied, "okay I'll stick a ladder in the middle of the road on a busy high street and hope nobody takes me out from underneath".

He grunted and walked off.

Mind your own business you **** head.

As for the "proper window cleaner" thing, every person more or less has been curious or sceptical of me using it after 12 years of being traditional but even my most fussy of customers aren't able to make a negative comment.

And I agree with others, it DOES feel more pro using it versus clinging on to a ladder with a cloth over my shoulder.

Sat in the van today after cleaning a house next to a bus stop. Little old lady watched me clean the front, then pack up in a sign written van. Hi are you a window cleaner she asked. I have a real sarcastic streak I have to hold back at these times.

Miss a spot is my favorite . One time hanging off a six-story building secretary started picking at the window I call them pickers and she almost got the Chinese spit shine but I was good just smile and waived!

Think some guys here are giving wfp a bad rep and duly this leads to lots of work coming my way (trad). Which is a shame for the industry overall, that some are letting it down.

Get lots of older people mention ah your a real window cleaner etc but guess with many doing a bad job wfp here that's inevitable..

It goes both ways. I picked up a new one the other day who got rid of her last one of 18 months because he kept leaving streaks. She didn't even hesitate to ask me when I used my pole, nor worry about it. Did a great job and got paid with a thanks and a smile. I've also picked work up from trad window cleaners who do a bad job as well. It's never the tools, just the lazy or uneducated person using them.

If people have a bad experience with either method they just need reassurance it's down the the person and not the tools used. That comes from the first time I do them

That "real window cleaner " quote from people really pisses me off

People spend thousands on the equipment and do a good job only to be told a guy with a bucket and scrim (nothing against trad as i still do it when needed and was trad 24 years) is a "proper window cleaner" and they are obviously just doing a bodge job

Sure..that is why we invest so much time and effort into our setups to do a shite job and have dissatisfied customers

I agree with those who say there's no bad method just the odd bad workman. Had a couple of customers who were sceptical about wfp but I just say "my guarantee is that if you're not happy I'll do them again". Fortunately this works and I've never had to do them again! Do admire your patience Green!
