Hi everyone. Missing pet owners use this method of communicating with the general public in urban areas very abundantly, frequently and shamelessly. Can a windie do the same to promote their business? What are your thoughts and experience? Many thanks in advance!

Several do it down here but the council can and will take them down unless you have permission which i doubt they would give. Could be different in different areas though.

I see plenty of them around (not all window cleaning) only seen the council take some down a few times.

Thanks, Gav. But you have never heard about anyone getting fined for doing it, have you.

I've been thinking of doing this. Theirs a removals company that has had signs for ages on certain posts / trees across the city. Don't think the council take them down but that's what's always held me back from doing it. Will have to check to see what the rules are etc

I work at a school, the lamp posts, telegraph poles, railings are covered in flyers. They never get removed and end up under the hedge after a heavy storm. I was of the understanding that you can do it as long as you take them down after a set period - I got that info from a pet insurance policy as they pay out for advertising for a lost pet!!!!

Years ago a freind of mine owned a nightclub they use to cable tie posters to lamp posts, traffic lights etc some times they would be removed quickly by the council on several occasions they would threaten to send the bill for removal but they never followed through with prosecution.

Councils do tend to take a dim view on it as it can make the area look untidy.

Not something I'd do - it's more likely to result in zero positive results and has the potential (as noted by GPCL) to result in a big negative hit. There's a big difference between advertising for a missing pet and advertising a business.
