After some advice here chaps, I've been asked if i could clean a customers bungalow roof. It's full of moss.Current equipment i have:

Gardiner SLX22 with 5 foot extension

Gardiner 8 Litre Mini Battery Sprayer Gardiner Pole Systems mini battery sprayer, I currently use this to apply UBIK before i use the main backpack to rinse off on the window frames and sills.

Gardiner Pure Water Backpack V3 - 22 litre - The Gardiner Backpack - Portable Systems - Pure Water Systems - All Products Gardiner Pole Systems Gardiner Backpack V3

Gardiner Overspray™ - Indoor Glass Cleaning - Indoor & Specialized - All Products Gardiner Pole Systems Used to spray UBIk using fan jets.

Would it be possible to do the job with the above equipment? I think i saw a post from daveyboy where he used what he had first but i don't know how to tag him to this post.

What type of brush does anyone use to knock off the larger bits of moss before applying chemicals, Is it just a case of getting a stiffer brush for the pole?

Has anyone tried to use a gutter vac to knock the large bits of moss off and hoover them up before getting to the really mucky stuff thats attached to roofs.

Equipment I'm considering buying

Gardiner Water Fed Pole Application Nozzle Gardiner Push Fit Type to attach to gardiners pole. Would this save on using gallons of chemicals and apply an even application (in a cone shape that i've read about).

I'm not sure what the difference would be to using one of these instead ? Benz Spray Nozzles

I've been looking at the prices of the biocides and they are expensive compared to using just hypo. I'm not knocking that they will do a better job, it's just i've only been cleaning for a year so i cant justify spending on the mixing nozzle.

I'm guessing i would use more chemical using my current equipment.

How long do you leave the hypo on the roof? Would you then just rinse off with a hose afterwards?

From your post, I'm not sure if you reaslise this but, you need to clear the moss off before applying chemicals. You say that its covered, so removing the larger bits won't do the job from my experience. You need to get up on the roof with a wire brush and brush off the Moss. If its flat slate, then a scraper will work, if its curved cement tile, them a lot of scrubbing with your wire brush is needed.

For those about to get into roof work (cleaning) Some chem suppliers will have you believe that you can spray product onto a moss caked roof and walk away.

Luke (@Taxlossloz ) did try to tell me otherwise but nope I wasn't going to listen.

Wasted £200 of chem and a week waiting for it to fall off. In the end I got up and scraped it off.

Now I always start with the scraper.

what about spraying iron sulphate on the moss first, it's a well known moss killer. green pro- we can't all jump to a setup like yours overnight, i've been going just under 8 months but thankyou for your advice-godfather.

@dave83 . Perhaps you should re-read the thread. At what point do I suggest jumping to a setup like mine 'overnight' or otherwise?

Do not be expecting violins mate. If at 8 months in I was looking at your shopping list I would have been happy. At 8 months on I was looking at returning the borrowed ladder I had and buying my own.

If you notice some nice stone flags are ruined with rust spots

I have seen videos using copper.sulphate

That seems to work well
