Got to my first house of the day, I clean the front then knock on the door for access to the back to be told they don't won't it to much water or something, bloke says we said we would ring you if we wanted it again, don't think so that's not true, oh well guess this is how Window cleaning is at times rant over lol

My mistake in not charging a premium for the first clean, learning curve

I never knock doors before I clean if I did I'd waste a lot off time

Also you did the fronts why not charge them

I would have not left that step till I got payed

Very new to this, and in reflection I wish I had off stood my ground and pushed for payment of the front, just didn't expect that, so I just moved on , lesson learned

Always knock first and I always text client a couple of days before I go to make sure they want it done.

Why always knock first? Its just wasting time I.m.o. You've made a verbal agreement to clean the windows on a regular basis, so just crack on.

I text the night before to customers who's gate is a problem, but I don't knock when I turn up.

Nice to have a chat once the job is done as their paying you, but to knock before and risk them gassing away before you've even started, no chance

I would have just got the ladders off the van, always good to be able to do both methods.

Knock first to let them know you are there, incase they are walking around the house in the nude or having a fight with someone. Also stops them getting a heart attack if they see you looking in the window. I think its manners. Even if clients tell me they will not be home I would still ring the door bell just incase.

Well, if that's what suits you. I don't think manners have anything to do with it personally, they have agreed with you to clean their windows in the first place. My postman doesn't knock each time he delivers the mail.

Never caused a heart attack in over 20 years on the glass, lol. But each to their own, whatever butters your muffin etc etc

To be clear. I park up, grab brush and head for back of house. I always work from back to front. If back gate locked I park my brush and go knock on to get gate open. If no answer I do sides and front then put the bill in the door and on to the next.

I do not knock at the start of a job to say hello. I just crack on.

If gate is open I dont knock at all. All pay me on BACS or GC so job done, bill in and jog on.

I generally park up. grab brush and hose, walk to front door and knock on it at the same time pulling more hose off enough to reach round back, if they dont answer by the time im ready to go round i crack on.

I always knock first though, apart from a few who are never in, end of the day they could be up to owt when they think the coast is clear i dont want to walk round the back and spy a bloke parading around in his wifes undies through the patio glass.

What I do in my house is my own business:eek:

i don't knock unless they have asked me for a quote but after first clean if the gate is locked then knock first before doing the windows.

but how do they complain to the weather man for the water ?

I never knock everyone knows I'm coming anyway sent a msg for gates etc and if they forget will find a way to open gate normally with pole
