Domestic big boys

Cause runing staff can be a PITA.

I was running 3 vans myself then due to headaches cut right back to just me.

Am expanding again though and will put out 2 more vans bu autumn 2017. Aiming for six more total by summer 2018.

The work is out there if you can be bothered.

Nationwide Window Cleaning owner got interviewed by Telegraph or Independent or something, he goes into this issue and what he did.

There is a window cleaner I believe comes on here TLC window cleaning(may be something different)who has 19 vans out there was a thread about it the other week.

Lee Pryer from another forum has 12 with 6 more due out within the next year.

It's a lot of work and I admire any one doing it you have to have a lot of houses to be turning over £500k plus.

You also need to be good with management.

Nationwide don't touch domestic a large scale domestic is 20 vans nationwide have well over 100 and commercial only.

He was turning over serious money before he got the grant which has to be paid back.

Can't understand why you down sized from 3to 1 vehicles and now you want to go back to 3 vans on the rd, WHAT will be the difference this time are you targeting wealthier areas bigger cheques , more stress = headaches why not take 1 person on and pick the jobs

@Green Pro Clean Ltd, hope the expansion goes well for you. I'm interested and looking closely into adding a van in future so tryingbto find out everythingbibcan at moment. Are you going to add the vans in the same area and try and absolutely saturate a town or city or part there of? Or are you going to begoing into totally new towns further away and get established there?

i was planning on getting a van out in early spring this year

didnt happen

staff is the main issue

i now have at guy and he will be going out in jan full time 40+ hours a week

u can only expand as fast as u can get the great staff

**** staff will lose u work and cost u money

The reason for the downsize was whinging cry baby staff. I wrote a post some time back, older members like @daveyboy will probably remember it. It was about how I offed the whole crew in one day.

They would cry about not getting a Friday off with 2 days notice so they could go to some festival. Would be late in as they had to drive the girlfriend to work cause she doesnt like to take a bus etc.

Thought they had me over a barrel as they figured I couldnt handle the round on my own. Well that backfired, they got fired and sold off a portion.

I am not really chasing anything 'bigger' as you put it, i'm very probably already the most expensive in the East Midlands and happy to be as clients are happy to pay for quality of service.

You ask what will be different this time? This time I will only consider a more 'mature' (older) worker. 40 +. Type that is greatful for the work. Just want's to put in his hours, pay his bills, watch his team on a Saturday over a pint or two and visit with his grandkids on a Sunday and knows that the belt on your jeans goes around the waist and not around the knees.

Most important changes I have made this past year is to stop taking cash. Now only on-line payment.

Also I don't get your suggestion of take on 1 person and pick the jobs?

I'm not hiring cause I need a 'helper' or someone to chat to in the van, i'm hiring to expand. So the plan is to take on 1 person but send them off to work in van by themselves.

To green pro , ok good luck to you, I used to have four lads work for me 10 years ago on the windows in 2 vans & 6 women cleaning offices for me.

I know what you mean with headaches & younger employees , used to pay them on a Thursday evening and hardly ever a full crew on a Friday, now one chap with me 44 years old, turns in every day , and now I cherry pick or target the jobs I want, so when it rains psss down will you still pay him for the day

Once again good luck & I hope you achieve your goals in 2017.
