Another Clean Window

Here are few pictures of a water heater stand I've just built.

As you can see it's an eccotemp L5 propane heater, I used the framework from an old clothes basket that my misses just so happened decided to throw away today, talk about meant to be, was just about to start making a wooden frame when she told me she had chucked it in the bin.

I cut up some sheet metal with an angle grinder, first I went about making the base plate by cutting a strip of metal then rolling one end and making a hook the other end.

Then used a sheet with a rolled end that hangs vertically for the heater to hang on, the bottom of that sheet hangs low enough to touch the legs stopping it from leaning and keeps the heater upright.

As you can see the ends are rolled so they can't come off and the bolt that hangs the heater goes through both sides so that can't come off, folds nice and flat and is very sturdy with the gas can in place, it all folds nice and flat so doesn't take up hardly any room in the van.

All I need to do is reinforce the bottom plate because it bows under the weight of the gas can, then just a case of painting it and make it look nice,

Had a little play today and all seems well, got some stuff to do at the mrs mums house tomorrow so will put it through its paces.

See how you get on first. I may just have a sensitive one. Mine isn't being used as a mobile heater. I use it to heat my water before I set out, so I have it in a well ventilated cabin in my garden. However, even there it is a challenge keeping it alight on windy days.

Looks good ! But why havent you mounted reel and Heater in the van ?
Another window cleaner has a heater as gas cylinder permanently mounted on a pallet truck. Having it portable means he can take it out of the van and connect to a customer's outside tap and use their water hot to clean fascias, gutters, conservatory roofs etc. before swapping over to a final rinse using pure.

He mainly just leaves it in the van and plugs it in when he feels hot is required.

It's been ok so far,

One issue is that it cuts out when the water stops flowing but the pipes swell because of the heat, then when the flow starts again it takes ages for the pressure to drop back down and gas to relight, at least that's what I think is happening.

Got a bit of fine tuning, thinking of making it a bit more portable and use it at the end of my reel instead, hose is gonna be knackered in no time otherwise, it's already gone out of shape lol.

I like to keep it portable, sometimes I empty the van to cart stuff around.

I have it set up so I can switch between van mounted if I am working near the van and can leave the doors open, if I need to lock the van then I chuck the reel outside and plug in there instead. Just use hoselock taps and connectors and it makes it very adjustable.

.......... and then some wheels. /emoticons/biggrin.png
Yeah that will be the v2, thinking of building a trolley for applying ubik from a barrel on fsg cleans, also thinking about fixing the heater to that and have it so I can plug my hose in to draw water from the van if needed

That is great stuff! Love the diy spirit!
Thanks, I do love a little project :)

Your right it is a bit of faffing around, it's mainly for a cladding job I've got this week, wanted a way to safely hang the heater so I can use it for that.

TBH I can't see I'm going to use it a great deal, probably use it for conservatory cleans and things to add a bit more cost on to the job, and like I said in a previous post I'll most likely mount it on to a trolley in the future for fsg cleaning
