A few of my family members have said to me in the winter u wont do well but i said i will because no1 likes dirty windows in the winter.... Do u lot gain customers in the winter? Am worried about my water freezing so what my plan to do is always use a backpack in the winter so no hoses can freeze up and am planning on putting a duvet around my water tank.. Gud idea??? Aslong as i fill the tank up each morning i think ill be okay.... Please tell me your experience in the winter lads

Don't lose many either though. I've only found water freezing on windows in unheated rooms eg connys. Your ideas are all good h, a quilt will help, but if it gets extreme won't do a lot of good. I use drums, leave them in the house o/night and never had hose freeze up at work even when it's sat in snow!

As chip says freezing water on the window is a problem. If I go out & that happens I give up. I work every day the same as in summer & only in 4 years had 1 custie stop for the winter. It's no different. As for custies between January & march this year I picked up 53 new custies which really shocked me & still have them. It was amazing and out of character.

Thats good to hear lads id rather fill up in morning /emoticons/tongue.png but yeah it wont be a problem filling 25ltr containers and then storing them inside. But getting that many customers is good !

Well I'm going to keep going, I noticed this year that most round here stop but then they probs dolies lol. Thats when I reckon I'll fill my rounds up, just as winters almost over before they start back up. When the rest ain't been for 3 months I'll canvass the poo out of every area I want more work.

I started in Jan this year (winter) all the other window cleaner gave it up in the area and I got 50 customers in a few months. So I know I can clean in winter so I am going to carry on this winter and clean.

- your family members have no window cleaning experience so take no notice whatsoever

- you will pick up customers all year round

- use hot water, i seriously dont understand why you would want to lug around a backpack all day lol

- putting a duvet round your tank wont stop it freezing, leave a oil filled radiator in your van overnight it will stop the water freezing

No point in using hot water if i mg going to fill up in the morning anyway.... but id rather use a backpack in the winter.... so no trailing hoses.... cos hoses do tend to freeze up in the winter right ? ? ?

In my first winter, I used water that was left in the van nd it was a sub zero night, at work, the water froze in the jets, not while it was been used but when the flow was stopped, but as I mentioned earlier, that as never happened when I've taken water from the house o/night, even when trailing in a foot of snow, flow stopped included

As concerns gaining or losing customers over the winter I have never seen a pattern develop.

I've never noticed any difference compared to other seasons, people want clean windows 12 months of the year. Those that don't I've been fortunate enough to avoid.

Take no note of haters H.

You just keep doing what you do.

Thanks lads i gained 1 new customer today and she goes to me in the winter i might want it every 8 weeks instead of every 4... i was like no problem /emoticons/tongue.png And i just thought to myself thats what they all say on here about their customers in the winter /emoticons/tongue.png

LOL

no point in using hot water? how inept are you? i've read some of your comments on here and your obviously not the sharpest tool in the box

you ask for advice and then turn round and say no point? i have done 6 years of window cleaning and i can tell you now wether you like it or not water freezes, i've been working at -6 with hot water and still earning money, when i was cold my set up would have froze long ago, some will say keep the water flowing and it wont freeze, lol at -1 the jets will freeze up and your water flow stops, water freezes in the pipes and then your working day has now stopped, been there and done that,

good luck mate your gonna need it

H, a good question to ask yourself is... why do homeless people use newspapers to cover themselves....

Paper makes a good insulator, so if you have any old sheets but no duvets fill the sheets with newspaper as it's generally free if you can grab some yesterdays papers lol

When I started 10 years ago I began canvassing in december and picked up a whole round!

Honest!!!!

So dont worry and crack on!!!!

You expect that it's cold all the time during winter but it's not. Most of the time it's not cold enough to freeze water. When it is put hose and di in the house and go out a little later when the temp goes up a little, I've worked through about 12 winters, there not that bad as long as you've got a fleece, hat and gloves. They are also drier than you think. The only thing I notices is most other window cleaners have gone and there's loads of cheap vans on eBay for father Christmas to get you!
