Some of you will remember that my purple transit broke down in September last year and I replaced it with a 2008 Vauxhall Vivaro. Well I must be a bad person because my luck is running bad.

ITS ENGINE HAS BLOWN - It's knackered and needs a replacement. The cost of the replacement and labour is dangling around the £3000 mark.

I have really had enough of vans at the moment. /emoticons/angry.png(

I remember reading about the vivaro's having trouble with injectors because of some tray which ran the rainwater off the windscreen onto the engine block and freezing on the injectors [emoji57]

your defo aren't have much luck with them .Dispatch seem to be a decent van ,I have an 07 one for 4 years now with no problems YET !!(hope I haven't jinxed myself ) [emoji16]

My vivaro has been great , had it for 2 years 134k on it, I out a new clutch kit in it and that's been it! What went on your engine

They are a bugger art they.

2 options imo .

Buy a brand new or nearly new onr woth warranty or buy two older ones and keep one for backup.

Anything in between is a waste of money. Whether it's 3 grand or 8 grand if they are more than 3 years old (warranty) and got any sort of mileage on then they are just a ticking time bomb.

I had mine for 4 months, so I guess was just waiting to go bang. I was driving along and heard a tick tick, that became a tap tap, then a very obvious bang bang all within about two miles. AA said it could be a piston or the big end (I don't know what that is) It was towed to my garage and they declared it as completely knackered and not worth paying to have it stripped down to find out what we already know. I rang Vauxhall and replacement would be £5700. A refurb one is about £2000 blank. So its not worth replacing.

Flip not good , these sort of story's give me the sh*ts!!!

Good to hear from you again S.P. Sorry to hear of your bad luck, hope things pick up for you.

To whoever commented that transits rot, that was true of certain older models, however, the new transits now come with a 12 year anti corrosion guarantee. I've recently ordered one so I know this is true /emoticons/smile.png

I just love the look of the new shape one. Its going off to elete wheels in Rainham, Essex to be pimped up, then of to grippa for some work on rollers etc, then everything plumbed in by my good self, then off to my sign writer to finish off.

Annoyingly, its 8 to 16 weeks until delivery

I understand why you would say that, but, this will probably be my last van. I'm 50 now and have a good pension that kicks out at 60.

I only do 4-5 thousand miles a year, so thought id treat myself /emoticons/smile.png

That's was me as I own one that I have to tart the arches up all the time lol but it just keeps going.

I'd like a new Van but the payments don't add up for me to buy one I've made 100k of a £1800 van and it's only cost me 700 in repairs. So can't see the point.

I like to drive them till they drop apart then get another lol

I feel for you bro, if I was you I would either get a brand new Van or lease a van. If you were to walk into a car dealership like peougeot, that would be happy to take your broken down van as a part ex. Sometimes you have to realise that paying to keep a second hand van running will cost more in the long run, than it would if you were to buy a new Van with monthly payments. Remember when or if you breakdown, that in itself is expensive for a self employed person. Just get a bit more work to cover the payments. This is what I did. Hope this helps bro

I thought I had it bad I bought a van with 60k mileage on clock iv gone to have brake pipe replaced and now brake servo has gone the part is £300 New.

Nothing like your trouble but I can empathize. Same thing happened to an old van only I got ripped off in process so in end the van had to be scrapped after I'd spent 2k fixing it

You can never win with vehicles. But a newish one for 10k pay 13k for it on finance then lose 6-7k in depreciation over 5 years. Or buy an old one and spend money repairing it a lot. Buying an old van is pot iuck. I've spent more on this vsn in a year than I've spent in 10 years with my old cars.

I've always been of the mind with old vehicles that I won't fix something unless it's absolutely nesacary. I've driven stuff with no heaters, windows stuck shut, slow fluid leaKS and making all sorts of noises but unless something drops off ill either leave it or fix it myself if I can.
