Insurance for wife and friend?

P

Pure Clean

Hi guys, This may seem a silly question but I cant seem to find the answer anywhere.

My wife cleans windows with me 1 day a week. Do I need to get her insured?

I also have a friend that occasionally cleans with me. Does he need to get insured?

If the answer is yes to these questions then what kind of insurance would I need?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Iron Giant.

However, I thought employers liability only applies if you have employees. Does my wife really count as an employee?

Does she get paid cash or benefits in kind? /emoticons/wink.png

If she's a partner in the business you only need PL other than that you would need employers liability

@Green Pro Clean Ltd think this ones for you, am I right in thinking your Mrs helps you?
Yeah. She helps spend the hard earned is about it!

However..... LEGALLY...... you must have employee liability for anyone that works for you. It does not matter how infrequently or casully.

Picture the scenario..

Mate falls off lader and ends up in wheel chair for the rest if his days does he

A: Say don't worry about it mate these things happen and I will rely on the benefits to get by.

B: Sues your ass..... WINS as you have a legal obligation to have the insurance and he will take everything you have and everything you earn for the rest of your days.

Now onto the wife. God forbid she has an accident during work, something serious, are you so tight that you wouldn't pay out £150 per year to ensure the woman you love is taken care of?

Sweet dreams.

Thanks for all the help guys. Yes my wife is a partner in the business.

From your comments it seems that I need to get PL and employee liability insurance! Is that correct?

I dont mind paying the money, I just want to be sure what I need to get.

Go with Gleaming Insurance as the rest of them policies ain't worth the paper they are written on.

she could just get her own policy? Would that be simpler?
No. He needs (as sole trader / partnership or ltd co.) To hold both public and employee liability insurance.

If I hire you as a sub (and you have your own policy) as I am the company contracted to complete the task I still have to hold insurance.

It works out less than £1 per day on average so why try to break the law and dodge it? See my point?

Thanks Green Pro Clean. You have definitely clarified things for me so I will get both.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Just a quick question as you are clued up Green Pro I am going to make my wife a partner in the business but she will only be doing clerical work at home do I employers liability insurance.

Don't think so. You will have fun doing your self assessment though. You may need the andica software.

If you're a LTD then LEGALLY yes. If you are entering a partnership as sole traders then I don't really know is the honest answer.

Scenario: Printers out of ink. Mrs hops in motor and pops to Staples. She gets home, trips on her way through the door and breaks a leg. With insurance you have a claim as she was tending to work related stuff, without it, nothing.

We all know the odds of this scenario are massive but more people break their legs every day than have a decent win on the lottery.

Just food for thought.

She won't be driving as we only have the one vehicle and all the clerical stuff is cloud/web based so emailing invoices and chasing up debts etc

I don't need any software as I use a chartered accountant to prep my accounts and do tax return .
