Section 1 – TASK

Description of the task to be done – Cleaning of Gutters from pavement or level ground.

Section 2 – Equipment & Materials

Slip resistant safety footwear, work wear / uniform, riggers gloves, Hi-Viz jacket (winter months_, Hi-Viz waistcoat (summer months), Portable Generator, Vacuum pole system and associated hoses, safety warning signs / cones.

Section 3 – METHOD OF WORK

ONLY OPERATORS TRAINED BY A COMPETANT TRAINEE WILL BE ALLOWED TO COMPLETE THE TASK.

Your Company Name operatives are to report to the site representative prior to starting work and sign in as necessary to the requirements of the customer. The operatives will ensure that the company vehicle containing the necessary equipment is parked in a suitable safe area and that minimum disruption is caused to pedestrians using pavements and access routes, and to vehicles on public roads where the company vehicle may be parked.

Your Company Name operatives will gather all PPE and work equipment required for the work task and must ensure that they are wearing slip resitant safety footwear, rigger gloves and Hi-Viz as required. The operatives will carry out a mental risk assessment of the work task prior to commencement of any works, and will highlight to their supervisor any foreseeable hazards, and where necessary will inform the site representative of such hazards, prior to commencement of any work task.

Your Company Name operatives will set up the Gutter Vac system by running the generator and will run the minimum amount of hose length possibly required to access the work area. Once the hose has been run across the ground level, any points where the hose crosses any pedestrian routes must be protected by the use of a hose tidy device, in association with any barriers, warning signs or safety cones as deemed suitable to warn and protect third parties of the location of the hose.

Your Company Name operatives will then assemble the telescopic pole and will connect the vacuum and hoses to the telescopic pole. Once the pole system is set up, one of the operatives will return to the generator to turn the power supply on. The operatives will then proceed from ground level to clean the gutters of the building. The highest section of the gutters will be cleaned first in order to then reduce the length of the pole for cleaning other sections of the building and reduce any spillage or dripping water. Any spillages will be cleaned up immediately. The operatives must consider manual handling at all times during the cleaning operation. All work will be carried out from ground level and in order to achieve cleaning to a satisfactory standard, the operatives will be required to reposition the Gutter Vac system to ensure that the minimum amount of trailing hoses are being run across any pavements or access areas, again ensuring that a hose tidy device will be used in conjunction with any barriers, signs or cones as deemed appropriate and suitable for use.

All work will be carried out using tools and equipment listed within the equipment section. All tools and equipment will be checked prior to use by the operatives before being used and all work must be carried out in accordance with the local site or client rule, and to the satisfaction of those rules, stipulated by the client.

All work will be carried out following the safe working techniques and methodology demonstrated during the skills / task training, manual handling training and COSHH training. The operatives will be aware of the hazards and risks associated with cleaning the gutters. The operatives must also be aware of weather conditions and darkness during winter months and must make the client aware of any issues or problems which may arise from adverse weather conditions at the time of carrying out the task. The operatives must pay extra care and attention in poor weather, winter months or darkness, and only carry out work in designated access areas.

When all gutter cleaning activities have been carried out, the operatives will check the work area and ensure that the work has been completed to the clients satisfaction and specification. When the work task has been passed, the operatives will hand the bill of works to the client’s representative for buy-off of safe work activities. All equipment, tools, etc, will be removed from the work area in the same manner that they were set up, and everything returned to the company vehicle.

At the end of the work shift, the operatives will sign out of the building or site as required by the clients procedures, remove and store any PPE and equipment within the company vehicle and leave the site in a safe manner.

At all time the operatives of Your Company Name will consider the following:-

REMEMBER – STOP – THINK – CONSIDER – NEVER ASSUME

If in doubt about safety when carrying out any work task – ASK!

Ask you Supervisor for help, assistance or guidance.

Your Company Name are committed to working safely according to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, The Workplace Regulations 1992, The Management Regulations 2006, PUWER 1998 and any other statute or regulation as required by both Statute, Common or European Law, enabled by Act of Parliament

Here is my generic risk assessment Again until you've inspected you can't do a risk assessment. Slip hazards, traffic, pedestrians and overhead cables apply. If any of the above are on the site except traffic and pedestrians I would write it below "Site Specific Risks"

Risk Assessment
