I agree you don't 'need' sign writing and logos. I just think it looks more professional. Each to their own etc /emoticons/smile.png
Yep Steve I agree it does look more professional. I will myself at some point get round to getting van sign written as another way of advertising. I have nothing against it but its certainly not essential and loads do very well without.

I don't believe it's essential.

I believe it helps. It's all about selling your service when you get to the doorstep.

Personally the best advertising money I have spent. T-shirt an hoody with name an numbers. No logo don't have one. Also the van sign Lasts as long as the van. For the same sort of price as 10.000 leaflets. Seen on the estate your targeting months after your leaflets been recycled into bog roll.

Hope they aren't glossy then... :turd::whistle:

Agreed on vehicle signage whether signed or not its about been a professional , I decided to wear a uniform years ago in order to be individual and standout to customers old and new .

I do think in my work area to a point i am been perceived as expensive just because of my vehicle and image but slowly as the years go by peoples perception has changed and will change , But some still have a old school perception of window cleaners in general .

That's an interesting point because I gave a quote to a lady and got the job and she told me another window cleaner did her next door neighbour but didnt ask him as he must be expensive because he's got a posh new van. When I saw the guy he has a quality looking 66 plate transit custom. Can work both ways i guess

Ive been thinking allot about this recently as well. I am definitely going to get my van sign written and purchase some smart work gear "uniform" and new waterproofs etc. I am still undecided whether to get the uniform Logo'd or not?

I will be a sole trader and working by myself, the only companies I see round where I live with Logo'd uniforms is the big nationals. My father in law is a roofer and is a sole trader and doesn't have a Logo'd uniform but has made a nice successful business for himself, he said to me that it's overkill for a one man band?

I see loads of plain vans window cleaning. I often wonder why they are not sign written. It seems an obvious thing to do for advertising your services. Maybe it's because they don't want any more work or don't want people knowing they are windiw cleaners for some reason.

i guess this depends upon what 'clientele' you are aiming for...

Those that i clean at the cheaper end aren't bothered about anything logo'ed or sign written - all they want to know is the price to have their windows cleaned. A logo on your van or clothing doesn't sway their decision either way.

Those that i clean at the other end of the market (and i mean big houses) aren't swayed either, they often don't even ask how much the window cleaning is, they just say 'Can you come and clean my property' we may briefly discuss the regularity and thats about it...

I don't wear logo'ed workwear - just industrial cargo trousers with the reflective piping, with a plain t-shirt.

Van isn't sign written either ( i have the vinyl all cut and ready to go but just haven't bothered to stick it on yet - too lazy  :1f644: )

As 'Chris clean' said - brand new van  all signed up etc could give the impression that you charge big money and put some people off enquiring....

I find if you have to do any collecting or chase up payment it's a reassurance at night turning up in not necessarily a sign written van but maybe it helps but having a logod jacket or similar defo

Also for commercial enquiries

Some dont want the hasstle of neighbours etc,   people phoning you up and getting abuse if you say you dont clean in there area,  for 1 property,     Some can take it personal if you wont clean there house and you have a signed van,    theres lots of areas i dont and wont clean in.

But a good vynil wrapped van would look good in my driveway.    But then people will know im JUST a window cleaner,  how embarrassing for me and my family.     They will then know how i can afford 4 hollidays abroad a year.

Ive had 2 already, May  in Greece,   June in Turkey.      I LOVE MY JOB NOW   LOL, i can just go when i want,     BUT im making up for it now.    well behind,,   im going out now on a Sunday.      Need to keep my customers all cleaned up.

I disagree with this. I too mainly clean large detached properties, your not far from me so you will know of chislehurst, Petts wood etc. I get lots of comments about how they like the look of my set up, sign written van, t shirts etc, they say it gives them confidence about giving me their gate codes etc.

Each to their own etc etc ?

steve is right van signed up,gear all signed is the way to go,your selling yourself.

especially if you on the hunt for graft also its my full name on the van and clothing.

i have had loads of work of the side of my van e,even folk phoning when i,m driving

your trying to stand out and get the cream work

Yeah, Chislehurst, pets wood, Keston, Hayes, farnborough has some nice houses. :1f44d:

it sounds like different work to what I'm talking about.

Im referring to top end properties that invariably wont even get to see the van even if they are at home. 90% of the time they aren't there - someone else provides access.

on a side note, what company you use for your tshirts etc? my mate recommended TotalTeamwear for workwear and uniforms...

I use Krowmark, competitive and a huge price range depending on the quality you buy

I use bandbox in Orpington. Not cheap, but I have my stuff embroidered not printed. Right, pub time, enjoy the rest of your weekend fellow windies ??

I get hoodies and cotton T shirts printed, hoodie = £20, T shirt = £10. A pair of walking type trousers and North Face walking shoes. I reckon looking the part makes you look like you know what you're doing even if you don't lolz. I think it gives people confidence in you personally.

I was cleaning a shop shop on Friday, a scruffy van pulls up next to mine with a  stick on logo. I clocked the geezers in the van and they looked dodgy. I made sure I clicked the lock button on my key fob to make sure my gear was safe. If I was a potential customer they wouldn't get a sniff of any custom from me.

Look smart, be the part!

Wish I were! Defo agree with your points about trust basically...its almost like we put our reputation on the line (with logod stuff and sign written van) and say here we are, makes us transparent and answerable more so too.

Can't do a bad driveway clean and run off with the cash if you rock up with a website and contact number on van for example...the customer will think about stuff like that to some degree or other .
