First Time Cleaning Windows- Few Questions?

WCF

Help Support WCF:

It's not a very good video, but if you can get through it, he'll explain how it works. Although he's got it on a 'Wagtail' you can put it on almost any channel. I do mine slightly different.

ABOUT DOG-EARING - THIS IS TO USE WITH A STANDARD BRASS SQEEGEE AND CHANNEL. The video Smurf has suggested from MyWagga shows the best way, although I have changed the way I do it slightly. Follow the video, but don't put the dent in the back of the channel to hold the blade, instead use the traditional end clips. Only allow 1-2 mm of rubber showing at each end (no more, this is very important), and use hard rubber blades, I use Unger. Hard rubber blades will do a better job and last longer, curiously, soft blades don't seem to work in this particular application (I use normal soft rubbers in my other blades). One other thing, put a piece of broom handle in the handle of the sqeegee, allowing about 30-40 mm sticking out. This will give better balance and control. Don't forget the flipper pads!!!
I find it does work better too if you hold it further down, There are some windows i.e with no rubber round the edge. That I have to hold it close to the top to get most of the soap off.

I use wintecs.co.uk because they have free shipping. I usually chuck my scrims and microfibres in the wash every few days - just the economy 20 min wash is fine. After that they go over a radiator until dry. Process doeant take long.

not being able to afford it is not the only reason not to go wfp, you get a better finish with trad, plus LOTS of customers dont like wfp, and even though anyone can clean windows it takes a degree of skill and effort to clean windows trad, i actually LOVE trad cleaning and would personally never go wfp, its personal choice
Totally agree. Wfp just windows I cannot reach.

I said I would never go WFP. I wouldn't say you get a better finish there is still detergent left one the window after its cleaned which leads to the window getting dirtyer quicker also there is some skill involved in cleaning WFP. I do however prefer trad cleaning.

WFP is a good time saver for me on a growing amount of jobs its also let me take on a lot more work that i normally couldn't. My only regret is not doing it sooner to be honest

Yes I am with you on that one Marc, I tried to clean 4 windows (not houses) on two different houses, that has never been cleaned, I used my wfp and backpack to clean them, obvisly they are cleaner then before, but no where near 100% clean like Trad.

I think I will go with what All Round Cleaning does, where if I was to go full wfp which wont be any time soon, then got to use trad to clean dirty windows, then wfp after.

I like the sound of this idea, by making you use the cloth less around the edges.

But id need someone to dog ear my squeegee cause if I did it, id prob do it wrong lol

On a first clean yeah trad is wayyy better. After you get the first clean out the way it plain sailing from there. You could even clean them WFP. let them dry. Go back and clean again?

I don't have any issues doing first cleans with wfp on fiithy windows as simply prespray with whatever detergent/chem I prefer to use on the day, scrub, let dwell, scrub again and rinse very well. Mind you takes twice as long as a normal clean but frames etc are deep cleaned aswell. /emoticons/wink.png

I cleaned some windows for the first time- did a bungalow and took 2 hrs lol (still not comfortable with heights). I cleaned all the sills, are you supposed to do that? Also, I had these old rags which were really small for cleaning the sills and window frames, what do most people use? They got really dirty with cobwebs etc I took a 2 litre bottle of water which wasn't enough afterwards to clean the rags. Also when cleaning where do most people put their rags and cloths, on a bucket on a belt? I kept putting them down and I think that lost me time.

Also, I was late as i set my phone to tell me in the memo gthingee, but it didn't flash or make noise or anything, I guess I need to get something different to warn me about appointments?

They gave me £20

Also, I just threw my rags and micro fibre cloths in the boot and went home, should i wash them or dry them out?

Also the microfibre cloths got wet and weren't doin g the detailing properly, need three for a job? do you just dry these out or wash them?
Clean all your equipment like the cloth that you used in cleaning, in doing so your equipment will last longer than its usual lifespan...

hiya - whats the difference between a good cloth and a scrim - i do have them both but honestly can't see any difference /emoticons/smile.png

do i have to keep the scrim only for the glass ?! also do you 'dry' the window with a scrim / cloth after cleaning/wiping it with squeegee ?

It looks ok for me only using the squeegee : )

sorry for silly questions - just started few months ago - from scratch

: -)

No, DO NOT go over glass with a scrim after blading it. Just use scrim to wipe round the edge of glass and frame using your index finger in the scrim to get rid of the water that's left.
