yer just to buy the gas tanks for them can setyou back from £100-£200 then you have the cost of the filling cap of around £100, cutting the sid of the van to fit the filling cap too

so lets work this out,

£140 for heater divided that by 365 days a year = 0.39p each day

actual running cost for an immersion heater:-

37.5p an hour

£3.75 a night (10 hours)

£26.25 a week

£105 a month

£1260.00 for a year

it takes 2-3 hours just to heat up 100lts of water,

thats goin on the tarriff im on, might be slightly different for other people

i know what one i would choose!!!!

i am not having a go i am only telling you waht i have heard just trying to help not sure where you have got you prices from because they are completey different from what i have seen and i dont care immersion heater and most people will tell you does not really have a cost because if you are unluckly you might have to use it 12 times a year so just a few quid any way forget that you are lucky you dont have to pay for gas not many people will have that luxury

its ok i know you are not. the prices are from knowing about it. i come from a building background and have help out sparkies.

To calculate the cost, what you need to do is found out the wattage of your electric immersion heating. A typical one is 3kW. That means it use 3 units or kW per hour of electricity to heat water. Have this on 2 hours a day it would use 6 units costing you about 78p per day (electricity costs about 13p per unit)

immersion is cheaper if you only use it a few times, but i was compairing it to match the use of the daily use i would use the water heater for.

The expert on gas water heaters seems to be njones....over the years he has tried many makes and mods so probably would be the best person to ask questions about there daily use.

according to a mate, on there insurance it wont put his up, but need to take to mine yet.

If it was a permanent fitting/mod to the inside of the van the guess you would have to inform your insurance company to make sure you would be still covered.

you have to tell them anyway if you carry any gas, esp the large cylinders.

yer if the heater was permanently fixed you would have to let them know,

It will be cold in 2 hours, less depending on temps
tbf its only the first 2 hours of the day that hurt in the winter, im trad and i fill my bucket with hot water in the winter mornings, after a few houses it cools down but im warmed up by then, no need for hot water all day imo

I agree gm for trad but rc is wanting to use hot/warm water for everyday use as seems to think it will clean better and help stop his wfp gear frezing up in winter.

To a degree pure warm water does work better than cold on first cleans but to be honest if it is that cold the ground being below -1 c then I would not use wfp gear anyway. Simples....

the article says it MAY freeze....

"The phenomenon that hot water may freeze faster than cold is often called the Mpemba effect."

It does freeze faster, I think it will help using warm water but not hot water. it somethins is told cold and is gets heated up to quickly. It will crack

The warm water will clean better than cold, and will stop pipes and brushes freezing when working.
