Oops sorry my mistake, was thinking of North Ayrshire which is very good at policing.

The reason South Ayrshire would not licence window cleaners if I remember from a meeting we had is they use rehab people to clean windows in a project. Therefore a lot of them would not be able to get licences that is why they declined to licence window cleaners.

Also to my knowledge from other sources but do do know if this is true Glasgow gangs are using window cleaning to launder money as they do with the taxi trade. Couple of window cleaners in South Ayrshire have said this but cannot verify this.

Prices are bad your way as well, in South you get a house for £3.50 and in the north where licensed same house £7.00.

That's where you sometimes see the benefit as if policed properly as it is in the north you see the benefits.

As I touched on earlier Doug the area is being squeezed by the sheer volume of competition. I`ve been window cleaning for almost 20 years and have now had to go find another job to supplement wages. I used to know every window cleaner in the town, nowadays there is a diferent van round every corner.

We have diveresed a wee bit here from the original topic but these examples prove, I reckon, how important licensing is.

without the policing of a license its completely pointless, and i dont think it would stop many of the dole-dossers, i mean, its already illegal to clean windows and sign on and avoid tax and not register and not be insured,etc, but they still do it

They could only charge him with the photos where the victims could be traced. He took hundreds while `on the glass`. Was a well documented case locally.

Don't doubt ya then mate but a licence wouldn't stop pervs until they're caught and what if they never are caught. I'm guessing here but I reckon theres probably more pervs without a record than there is with.
Don't get me wrong I might go for a licence as long as it was policed properly and not just a scam but I really think this countries money could go on far more worthwhile things than watching out for windies without a licence, ailing health service, catching thieves, murderers and pervs spring to mind and theres so many cutbacks in those important areas that I seriously couldn't back any plans to bring in a licence. Please don't say it would itself pay for the policing, it wouldn't.

Yeah it's completely optional for councils to charge the licence fee, it really just up to them if they want the hassle, but if they decide they do, then its the law that you must comply. Bit of a money making scheme for them if you ask me. 26 council areas in Scotland are licenced, but there are a 6 areas that aren't.

Im a member of that, if you think you know someone thats not licenced al you need is a name address or car reg plate. Then they do all the phone calling to get the police out at there door. Ive used them before, 3 days and the police were at the guys door. People have phoned in robberys and they have took longer to respond

I never stopped the guy I used it one, hes has 8 employees and 2 vans on the road. I just wanted to make a dent in his pocket. He had to go out and get public liability, employers liability, 8 window cleaning licence, I must have set him back around 1k?

There a lot of people out there without them, I would only ''grass'' then in if there were ******* me off or on my patch if you like.

I maybe doest stop them but having one highlights you have insurance, you can get one without it. It also lets the council know who has them and how much there covered for (I have hoped the look through that list when looking for window cleaners)

Thats what we need, a list on a website for all to see who is registered.

I thought I was on a winner here, like I said thought i imagined in or something, but if such a thing exists then I think its about time we done something about it to have all the uk covered!
