Turn the tap off from the inside, keep the tap open, take hose off and empty. Then when you are filling up, running water don't freeze!

Yer that might help a bit, if the tap freezes you could get some warm water and pour over the tap unfilled it frees up!

Yes it would, and as soon as it gets wet, its not doing the job its ment to and make things just as bad.

Well it's not for me then... Going to stick to my heaters and cover a few things up... I really think the heaters will do there job, it only needs to be above 0c... If it fails, that's another tick box on my things to do for next winter to sort out :-(

Any wool type insulation looses effectiveness when it gets damp,.. so the first bit of condensation in your van will render it near useless.

There are other options though - there's a type of insulation that looks like silver bubble wrap & its surprisingly effective,.. also you can get rigid foam boards (NOT polystyrene cause its flamable) with foil on each side which are brilliant insulation.

Done the roof of the van (as this is were most of the cold will come through. Also done one side of the van, just got the other-side to do. I'm not kidding, I could feel the heat from my body reflecting back inside the van as I was installing this... Installing this insulation along with my greenhouse tube heaters will do the trick (I hope).

I'm sure the thermowrap will do the job. I just put my loft insulation in a bin bag and tape it around my kit. Held fast for 2 years, never needed touching apart from when I had to replace the cartridges. Gonna start another thread about the pipe lagging I use...

Now that is funny..... Can you picture the scene, -4c outside, my greenhouse tube releasing all that heat which is bouncing off all that thermowrap, its 2am, and the police helicopter is out hovering over our area.... guess what... knock knock... lol, My wife won't be impressed. Mind you the police offers will get a right site seeing me at 2am in the morning... I could always be mean and let the wife answer :huh:

I bought 4 rolls @ £9.99 from homebase... just got one side to do. Done the roof, and left hand side of the van. Will show some pics once complete.
