New Pole

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I got mine in 02, still on the original membrane, though it is getting to the end of it's service life now.

Got plenty of grey hairs to prove it Smurf. /emoticons/biggrin.png

OTT, not sure if that was an oblique reference to the price or the weight of the poles. /emoticons/biggrin.png

Right why are people buzzing over facelift poles ? they havent even been tested.. a lot of people are saying im getting a new pole and its going to be the facelift pole !

How do you know it going to be the ideal pole for u ? it hasnt even been tested yet and some people are willing to take a gamble and splash out a few hundred kwid and test it theirselves... why ? ? go for gardiners poles.. its well established and atleast you know your going to get a good pole /emoticons/smile.png
Ive got one and its awesome, Although I havent got my hands on a gardiner one yet. I remember seeing a window cleaner using what I though was one of his poles. Ill wait till I bump in to him again and as for a shot of it lol

Well I have been wanting a new pole. I also like the look of the facelift clamps.. I use a clx, and the clamps are fine when pole is extended, but if I close the pole to do bottoms, the clamps will need adjusted so they don't spin and that is annoying..

So it's either between the slx 25 and the facelift 26.. Stephen ill be happy to do an honest review if you can give me some discount! Alex, your poles have quite a lot of good reviews already.. But I'll take some discount anyway? Please..... Lol..

At the moment there is no Phoenix35 so it would have to be the SLX35!! I'm sure that Facelift will be adding a similar size pole to the SXL35 soon though. Exact rigidity comparison will have to be tested once they have been released.

The Xtreme35 is in a different league from the SLX35 both for rigidity and lightness.
This request goes out to both Alex and Stephen.. Who's prepared to back their product by doing a side by side test.

For the purpose of the test you should use a slx 25 and a phoenix 25.

This is one test that should be done by pole suppliers.

Here's the test: Extend both poles equally, same overlap etc, and then hang a 2kg weight from the end of the extended pole. The 2kg weight is close to the typical cleaning pressure when using a brush.

Please stick to a comparative working weight on the end of the pole; it’s a very simple exercise to do. Please provide the working rigidity test/videos

Alex i would like you to do the same test with an slx 35 and the extreme 35, because if i'm going to spend hundreds of pounds more for an extreme i want to see where my money is going.

Stephen, this is your opportunity to show me that i should wait for your phoenix 35 to come out rather than buy a gardiner pole, plus it will prove you do have a product that can compete with gardiner poles.

I look forward to seeing which pole supplier is more willing to do these types of test.

good luck and thank you

I'm sure that both of us would be more than happy to carry out this type of test and in fact it is already what most firms do. I have rigidity tested a Phoenix 26 against an SLX25 on video, but obviously the SLX is much more rigid because the Phoenix26 is the UL version with the thinner top section. Stephen has already video tested an SLX25 and the (yet to be released on sale) Phoenix25 against each other, but the SLX25 was an old worn pole so it also was not really representative.

As soon as the larger range goes on sale of the Phoenix poles there will be plenty of comparisions being done.

However doing a side by side test of a 25ft pole will not show you exactly how a 35ft pole will react.

I can certainly shoot a video showing the Xtreme35 and the SLX35 together - I will look into doing this.

Whether attaching something as heavy as a 2kg weight is best will have to be looked at though.

I will look forward to seeing the difference

Martyn, you started out with OTT?? How long have you been going? I don't know many who go that far back, we had our first system from them back in 98(?)
I started out with tucker USA stuff! Same stuff Noah used to clean the tsohars on the ark! It was clumsy, heavy and no one believed it would ever work! How wrong were they?! Lol.

Just been informed of section 1 snapping on the Phoenix, maybe something to watch if you apply too much pressure on the pole as the top section is smaller than most poles !!

Thanks for the notice Doug,

We know nothing about this, no one has contacted us saying this has happened, which find it strange as I personally would be onto the manufacturer not telling other suppliers. Please ask who ever 'informed' you to contact us so we can get it sorted and find out what has happened. Despite being smaller top section we have specified it to be made to a very high standard carbon while being very strong.

gardiners will win
I don't think this is a 'I win you lose' situation, I kind of liken it to playstation/Xbox or even a PC/Mac - one pushes the envelope and the other does the same. The winner is always the end user!

For some reason window cleaners like to complain about their gear on the forums. It would be kind and curteous for the customer to go directly to the supplier so they could just fix the problem but where's the fun in that? When the thread goes viral everybody but the supplier has a good time. Oh well... :-(

Hi Den

I have taken some video today showing the Xtreme35 against the SLX35. After some testing I have not used a 2kg weight as this would only be representative of the force exerted by you the user if the pole was used vertically. As we tend to test the poles flex by extending them horizontally the 2kg weight on the end would be so far in excess of the actual pressure sideways at the tip of the pole that it would have no relevance to the real world.

I will get the video posted as soon as possible.

Hi Den

I have now uploaded the video showing the comparative difference. This video also demonstrates that simply extending the poles and measuring deflection difference over a length is often only part of the story. The real benefit of more rigid poles comes in their ability to absorb and control bounce - in window cleaning this would translate to the ability to communicate the energy used by you in moving the pole and changing direction.

not a good start for facelift after all the hype /emoticons/tongue.png lol

i see, when is your pole coming out cos no 1s reallyreviewed it yet i wanna see how good they are mate

Well this has been an interesting little skirmish. /emoticons/biggrin.png

Speaking as someone who started out with OTT/Ionics equipment I'm inclined to think that Alex's poles are quite well priced and specced, the size information is clear to understand. Having used and handled a number of his poles over the last few years as well as a number of Ionics offerings I am firmly of the belief that Gardiners poles have been king of the heap for quite a while, however nothing stands still and it may be that these new poles will knock them of the throne, or maybe not. Three months should give us a clear idea of how they are going to measure up.

On a personal level I have found dealing with Alex to be a positive and often informative experience.
+1 for that bought my first gardiner pole last week and cant complain brilliant service next day delivery and a great reputation that will take alot to beat
