Resin Lasting 2Weeks?!

Because if the small amount of water I'm using people has suggested that I go for a twin di which was working great at first. I was expecting the resin to last a month or two but just checked after using it for two weeks and its at 119ppm! I've probably purified around 1000litres.

Does this sound right or am I doing something wrong?

Did you

A, use 1 DI to start with. When ppm got high add 2nd DI. When ppm went up again change resin in first DI & use that as 2nd DI. When ppm goes up change resin in 1st DI & use that as 2nd DI & so on. Hope this makes sense. Sounds to me like you used 2 DI,s both with fresh resin.

My water is around 270 and i only use twin di and have been since may and i have not even used a full bag as yet .

Im using 2 11litre vessels and using. Approx 250 / 300 litres a week .

Could be right or could be wrong.

What volume have you produced and input ppm.

What grade resin did you use.

TDS Meter what are you using as a lot of fakes out there.

DI Vessel could be a problem as well.

doesn't leaving the resin stand in the water cause it to rise too?? thats what happens in my ro if i leave it a day or 2, water goes in it at 12ppm then if i leave it sitting it raises to 30-40 depending on how long i leave it!

Yeah, the water sits in the membs when you turn off and isn't pushed through as efficiently so takes a minute or so to clear that out and get back to normal. I don't know if it makes the blindest bit of difference, but I flush for 30-60 seconds before turning off and after turning on??? It also seems to raise the tds higher the longer it's not been used, again, could be imagination!

My 2 di's only get used once every 3 months to fill 200litres & when not using them they just sit there with water in them. Had same resin in since May & there fine so I don't thing leaving it makes it rise. Always give them a good shake before using them.

i only have a 2lt di after ro, and the ppm in that always seems to rise when it has a few days of standing.

Think you have answered your own question rc. /emoticons/wink.png

Should also backflush ro membranes at least every week for 30 mins or so to help prolong there life and change pre filters at least every 6 months if not before. 12 ppm for a small ro seems very high to me rc as the output should work between 2-5 ppm so signs that your membranes might be on the way out.

dont know that, as i flush them back down to 12ppm before the resin, i never flush with the resin

already do all that, but flush for that length of time on a daily basis with the pump on! ,my water starts at 450ppm before the RO system, so the 12ppm is good.

Wow 450 Thought I had hard water /emoticons/ohmy.png

In that case it's not that bad at all but would not expect those membranes to last very long maybe 2 years at the most before they are trashed. If they last any longer you will be doing very well indeed.

yer your telling me! i was supprised it was that high when moved here, must have the highest on the forum.

membrains was first fitted in july 2011 so still going well for now, pre filters changed 6 monthly, 2lt resin changed 2 weekly.

flushing through each day for 20-30 minutes and thats with the booster pump.

Yeah water is around 270ppm... Added the second di now so hoping that'll last longer. Need to buy another bag of resin now though. I'm using two 27ltr di vessels off eBay and I'm using highest grade tulsion resin as advised off here. Maybe it's fine I'm just using more resin than I hoped.
