i just cleaned all the fascias and this arch shaped thing on a bungalow with sponge and sill cloths using the unger jaw thingee on my extension pole they are filthy, so I brought them all into my kitchen filled up the bucket with water and washing powder for clothes and handwashed them, is the right thing to do? I mean are there things on the cloths which are bad for your health if you put your hands in the water with them? The fascias were filthy. I then hung them on my workmate to dry. At the top of the arch shaped fascia thingee there was a broken plastic electrical box with a wire leading to the electrical line for the electrics. I was worried to wash too close to this with the sponge incase I electrified myself!

I tend to hand wash mine most of the time so I don't get grit in washing machine, only put em in there every now and again.

Washing machine should be fine,

Dodger no need to worry about grit staying in their, if rinsed properly the machine should be left clean.

I was all sorts in mine and its always clean, including: muddy football kit, my Wc stuff and reusable nappies...... And there is never any sh1t on my clothes lol

I know it shouldn't Dave but it's brand new and more worried about the missus's wrath than actual grit lol.

Ya should hear her moanin about my pump, pole, wet cloths and 100 litres of water in downstairs loo. How am I supposed to know how she is supposed to have a pee in there I'm a bloke i don't sit down I aim lol.

Just re read DON'T USE POWDER it will leave grains In the cloths, just use washing up fluid and put on an extra rinse once finished, otherwise your cloths will not be as absorbant

There is all sorts left on sponge and sill coths- leaves, twigs etc as well just dirt, should I throw them in washing machine like that? Can I throw sponge in washing machine as well?

Also, can you get anything harmful to your health off fascia or sofitts etc? Asbestos or something, that was another reason I worried about handwashing, but I am a bit of a hydrochondriac.

mine go in the washer never no probs if ive done say frames and white ect ill give them a rinse under the outside tap then put them in the washer.

^^Same here....well, sort of......

My cill cloths when dirty, get rinsed out under a running tap untill clear water appears when being rung-out.

If their still manky looking after that, they'll go in the washer....simples /emoticons/smile.png .

It's the wet cloths she's moaning about........your aim can't be as good as you think it is

So jealous right now lol

put my cloths in an 80 degree wash, but when it finished the cloths were all cold, not steaming hot from being in hot water, is that normal if you set a washing machine for a hot wash?

Also dried my cloths on an airer, when they are reasonably dry is it ok to store them in a carrier bag with the sill cloths, scrim etc Or do they need to be in a breathable bag?

What a div I am. My landlady just explained, of course the cloths come out cold, the wash might be hot, but the final rinse is always cold so the cloths would come out cold at the end, this is normal! derrrrrrr

One more question, is it ok to wash scrims from windows, sill cloths and sponges the last two filthy from fascia and soffitts ok to wash with my other clothes, they won't contaminate them will they?

Scrims- I know these need washing in a hot wash to improve them, will hand washing them also improve them? (get rid of hairs it leaves on windows etc)

just stick everything in together on a hot wash, people on here make such a big deal about washing things seperately on different temps and using different cleaners/chems.

from my experience it really doesnt make a blind bit of difference. just make sure their clean and dry and you'll be ok

well i just cleaned my cloths in 83 pence tesco washing powder and to my surpise it realy works it was on a hot wash tho /emoticons/tongue.png
