Sediment > Carbon Filters

Evening lads,

One of my filters broke last week when we had the freeze, i think some water got in the groove of the thread that keeps it connected and then expended and snapped. Anyway, i'm just about to replace it but as my carbon and sediment filters look the same i'm wondering which one is which?

I there a written rule about which filter goes 1st in a set up? i.e

Sediment > Carbon > RO > DI ....

There is a huge difference between the 2, the Sediment I would describe it as a woven fibres. The Carbon will have a outer shell and if you shake it you will hear the carbon pieces ratling inside.

On my system (ionics) the carbon filter is first and then the sediment filter. A new carbon filter has a fair amount of small particles which will flow into the sediment filter.

Not suitable as its 1 micron, you need a 5 micron for RO systems.

I would probably say they may not suitable for bio diesel which the molocules are greater than 1 micron
