Rules

Our rules really aren't that difficult to understand and follow. The simple version of the rules is as follows:

Don't spam

Don't post pointless ****

Don't use non-descriptive titles.

Don't start or engage in arguments.

No personal, religious, racial, sexual or political attacks. Trolling, bullying, religious, racial or other disruptive behaviour.

Personal attacks, threats, flaming, harassment of others, arguments, trolling, bullying or other forms of disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in post removal, user warnings, temp/permanent bans.

Anyone who engages in such threads, whether they are the instigator or just jumping in, will be treated the same.

If you can do that, your stay here will be easy and long.

Important Points

When posting on the forum, please take the time to think about the below points:

Post in the correct area

Think about your post/question and to which area it is best suited.

Use a descriptive title.

Please ensure your thread title is clear and relevant to your post. Posts using titles like FTAO will be removed as is obviously intended for one person. The personal message system should be used in these instances. Posts with titles like for a laugh, chat, help are also not helpful and may be removed. These titles do not help other users find the content they are looking for.

Keep on topic

Please ensure your replies to threads are relevant to the original post. If not, please start another thread.

If a thread goes off-topic, please help your fellow members by bringing it back on topic.

The more detailed version

Spamming

"Spam" is a pretty big catch-all for posting things that are overly promotional in nature. This can be traditional spam like Viagra or iPhones for cheap, but it can also be less blatant things like posting something just to drop a link into your post or asking questions about something you already know the answer to (for example if you worked at a web hosting company in New York and you start a thread asking people where to get web hosting in New York).

Don't direct users to your signature link. If someone actually needs whatever you have in there, they will see it on their own (or if you really must, you can send them a private message about it).

Attempts to artificially manipulate any of our systems can be seen as spam (for example, if you "like" a zillion posts that are not really likeable).

Expectation of users

Users are expected to act appropriately when using the forums. This means respecting others, their opinions and beliefs, including religious, racial, sexual and political. We consider users an integral part of the forum, and without them, we would not be what we are today, so we value your input and appreciate you helping us keep the forum a great informative and friendly place to be.

People will have different opinions and beliefs, whether this is to do with business, window cleaning, religion or race. At times you will have to agree to disagree and leave it at that if you have issues with a member, contact staff or discuss with them via personal message, NOT in a forum thread. This also includes issues or experiences with services, we understand some might want to alert others to a bad experience, but our public forum is not the place. Please take it up privately. Such posts may be removed at the staff's discretion.

Some context As far as the forum goes, we can only govern what happens on the forum. For us, it is impossible to make a judgement about an issue regarding a service, for example. However unfair it may seem for both parties, we can not make a judgement based on one person's word against another.

It would be unfair for us to ban a user or take action based on what someone else says, as we don't truly know the facts. What if someone was really out to damage a business on purpose how are we to know if this is the case or not hence why we take the stance that it's dealt with privately and not on the public forum. It's the only fair way to do it from our position.

It may seem unfair to those that post things like this as we would have to remove them not because we have chosen to side with the other person or service but because we are enforcing the rules of the forum (as stated we can not govern what happens outside of the forum only what happens on the forum) Users can report posts if they feel something is not right.

Advertising on the forum

As a result of our popularity, often users find our site a lure to advertise for free. This is something we now do not allow as we value our members and although a product or service might be very good, we don't want our users spammed. If you're looking to advertise, please do so via the official means https://windowcleaningforums.co.uk/store/product/1-advertise/ To clarify anyone can post links or details on a product/service but when it's a service you provide it's a little different as it is advertising of sorts. (indirect advertising.)

Just because someone has asked about a certain product does not then mean you can start replying saying things like "we have them here" or "give us a call we have some" etc. Yes, it might be helpful to this member and relevant to their question, but please think for a minute about the bigger scale implications. The vast majority of posts on our forum are questions. Imagine if every question was just answered from services saying buy here, contact us etc. The forum would soon turn into a mass billboard.

When you're a sponsor, you pay for a particular advertising option or position. This, however, does not then allow you to make these post all over the site. Ultimately anyone can post links but not indirect advertising of your own service. The only time we might allow this is if you are asked a question about your product specifically and a link or information about your product/service might form part of your answer.

Accepted example:

Q. My (make) brush is Broken after one day how can I get the part to connect brush to the pole.

A. Please let us know your order number. You can order another here LINK and we will replace free of charge

Not accepted example:

Q. I am looking for a new brush that has XYZ where can I get it or which is best.

A. We sell several brushes that might be of interest take a look here LINK.

Posts that are advertising services will be removed/locked or edited at staff discretion.

Staff action scale

So that all members are aware of resulting actions of breaking the rules here is what will be enforced by staff.

Action scale: (taken against any violation, dispute or other.) The process that will be used by all staff regarding violations will be as follows:

1. If a user has broken a rule then staff may do the following. Actions will depend on whether it is in relation to a post/thread or something else. They will either reply to the thread, send you a personal, or remove a post. If post removal happens users will be given a reason. (As stated below, discussions around actions should only be taken up in private message)

2. If the user does not comply in a reasonable time or just continues the offence then the second action will be the issue of a warning.

3. If after the first warning the user does not comply a final warning will be given.

4. If after all of the above the user still does not comply a ban will be issued. This could be anything from a weeks ban to permanent.

Our decision is final and if deemed necessary, staff may bypass the above giving a direct warning, ban or other action depending on the situation.(often in the cases of, although not restricted to blatant spam or joining for the sole reason to flame others.) Any posts relating to and following an action by staff will be removed. If you feel the need to discuss an issue please talk to a member of staff via pm and not the public forum.
