The way property is now you have to head north to get an affordable property and if people don't chances are they will spend there lives paying off someone else's mortgage...

I've had a mortgage since 1986 and still have 172 years left to pay on it (well it seems like it)That's the beauty of divorce. I've bought the same house twice now and it was over twice as much the second time. However I do have a large family home for me and 2 of my daughters. My ex wife has a lovely house that I bought her. None of this hassle if you rent!!

My missus' grandad passed a couple of years back and left his place to her mum. We're looking to keep it in the family and she generously said we could live there rent free for a couple of years to get a deposit together. Can't wait to move in, it's a beautiful place with plenty of garden for muttly to go mad in. Don't think I would have been able to get on the ladder otherwise

Good for you mate.

I think it's currently impossible to buy a house (unless you're in a god forsaken part of the country) WITHOUT outside help - inheritance/parents/grandparents helping out with deposit.

Goodness knows what the next generation are going to do... Live at home till their 50's & 60's and wait till their parents snuff it..  :37_disappointed:

I paid £75pm into a Shepherds Friendly Society endowment for my kid when she was born it matures when she's 18.. It's a struggle for kids today growing up in a greedy selfish society..

That's what the mrs and I have just done for my oldest son. Still couldn't afford to get him a gaff where we live so he's had to move down to deepest, darkest, redneck Kent, Chatham.

Just to put a downer on this matter but the average "child" leaves the house at 30!! i got a long way to go with mine lol !!

I've still got 2 out of my 4 at home. The older one being 26. She has got a bloke at the mo and spends lots of time there. But will she ever move out?
