Ha ha Russia invade us! They couldn`t invade a biscuit tin.If your hands and fingers go that cold way where in your head you'd happily have them chopped off to make it stop, then just start hitting them of a wall, the numbness takes away the cold then carry on.
Whatever happened to "the stiff upper lip" attitude that we are meant to be known for,
This thread has made me realise just how phucked we are If russia decides to try and invade us, us in scotland would have to chase them out all by ourselfs and come to your rescue as you've turned into wee girls.
I bought some of those a few weeks ago - well I tried, they actually gave me an alternative brand. The SWG227 are decent, not mega insulated but the lining seems bonded to the waterproof outer which stops it getting pulled out. The replacement ones are a little bigger fit wise but that just make them easier to get on and off. After using the new ones for a couple of weeks they seem to have become a bit slippy grip wise. I will give them a wash and see if that restores the grip. I do like them for cooler temps and wet conditions - like gsf cleans, for the money they are good.Bought these from screwfix, only about 4, nice and warm good grip and dexterity, thermal and fully waterproof.View attachment 31006
Good to know you are still obsessed with me being in my barrelSurely that smell will disappear after you’ve sat in your water butt for a while

I find that my fingers get very cold, no matter what gloves I wear, for the first couple of jobs then they seem to warm up once the blood is flowing.Weird isn’t it, loads of folk like skytec argon and similar but I find with those my hands are frozen in 10 minutes! Must be middle age as I used to be able to handle the cold in my younger military days
Don't be daft. The English trusted you lot to protect them from the vikings, look how that went. When it came to the romans you just stuck up a wall and looked after yourselvesDon't worry if they do, hang tight, itl not take us long to come to the rescue
I think when it's really cold you have to get over that initial pain, once you've done it once for the day it seems to be ok.I find that my fingers get very cold, no matter what gloves I wear, for the first couple of jobs then they seem to warm up once the blood is flowing.
Very true. I tend wear base layer top and trousers when the temp drops below 4DegC, then a sweatshirt and hiking trousers on top. I also carry a fleece jacket, and a softshell jacket that I add as necessary. I hate being cold, just can't stand it. I also have a heated gilet and heated coat but I've never need them as by the time it gets that cold to need them the water is just freezing on the glassI think when it's really cold you have to get over that initial pain, once you've done it once for the day it seems to be ok.
One thing I have found and everyone seems to miss is that it's not just about the gloves. I wear little disposable gloves to avoid carbon dust all day but I only break out the Argon's when it's absolutely freezing. Your hands and feet can survive a lot more cold if you keep your core wrapped up. Wear a base layer and some long johns. Your body is working less to heat your core and therefore can protect less important parts like your hands and feet.
A third of your body heat escapes through your head, probably more for the follically challenged , one of the reasons I grow a beard every Autumn and wear a hat more times than gloves.I think when it's really cold you have to get over that initial pain, once you've done it once for the day it seems to be ok.

A hat isn't just for follically challenged . I do use a hat and a snood when it's chilly. I grew a beard when I sliced my right thumb open and couldn't hold a razor about 15 years ago, still have it now .A third of your body heat escapes through your head, probably more for the follically challenged , one of the reasons I grow a beard every Autumn and wear a hat more times than gloves.
Far too trendy for me I have a warm heavy fleece when it's cold, the collar goes up to the jaw line, and very good waterproofs when it's raining. People think I'm joking when I grow my beard, I call it my winter warmer, and say it's to keep me warm, but it really makes a big difference.A hat isn't just for follically challenged . If you have never used a snood get one, they are great for stopping the wind cooling your neck plus in the wet weather they stop the rain running down your neck.
Sit in a barrel of cold water, it conditions you to the cold, honestVery true. I tend wear base layer top and trousers when the temp drops below 4DegC, then a sweatshirt and hiking trousers on top. Coming from a nation that wears skirts
I've found in the past that Screwfix gloves are just cheaper copies of other gloves they just aren't as durable.Bought these from screwfix, only about 4, nice and warm good grip and dexterity, thermal and fully waterproof.View attachment 31006
I find the cheap cotton looking ones which are actually a synthetic material are better than the thick fleece ones some people wear they are just too bulky, I bought some from Aldi years ago and still have one of them and have picked up others over the years, they are idealIf you have never used a snood get one, they are great for stopping the wind cooling your neck plus in the wet weather they stop the rain running down your neck.
