Only been at it 2 months myself now but what Alejandro says here is the biggest issue I faced initially.
Unless you're exceptionally lucky most of your first cleans won't have been cleaned in years and it can take a long time, lots of effort and pure water to do each first clean.
Once you get...
Good idea to provide it as an add-on service. I'll order an Unger scraper to attach to the pole as I'll still have water being pumped to the top of the pole once the brush head is removed.
Trolley is working great, shoulders not so bad (and I've dislocated one of them a couple of times) despite the aluminium pole. Getting a workout on my biceps pushing that trolley though.
Most houses are caked in dirt due to years of neglect so I've been mixing 100ml of No Nonsense degreaser...
Still a bit anxious about knocking on doors unsolicited right now to be honest. You don't know how people are going to react, whether they're vulnerable and shielding etc.
Still getting calls from my initial leaflet drop saying they haven't seen their previous windy in years and never been...
I'm fine with a slow buildup but I think I can do pretty good on leafleting alone for now. There's around 2,500 properties within a half mile radius, maybe 4 times that if you go out to a mile.
Just blanket dropping unless I notice something like damaged windows or obstructions when getting...
Around 950. Wasn't really expecting any same day response though. Was expecting leads to start filtering in from tomorrow. I'll have to keep a log of lead/leaflet percentages.
It's been just shy of 2 months since I started reading this forum for advice on starting up a window cleaning business. All of your posts have been invaluable so thanks to all contributors.
I decided early on I wanted to reproduce Apw1210's excellent WFP trolley and since completing it I must...
Yeah been bitten a couple of times myself over the course of 5 years. Both times the draught excluder and back flap were missing so it's a direct line to a silently waiting dog's mouth.
The last one was a 1.5 inch tear to my middle fingertip which even penetrated the finger nail and caused...
As someone who has distributed leaflets as a sideline for years you can probably expect 90% + to end up going straight in the bin/recycling without even being looked at.
Leafleting is a pure numbers game, the more you put out, the better. I'm personally expecting 2% - 5% of the leaflets I put...
Thanks for the update. These kind of topics are inspirational for noobs such as myself to see just how far someone can go in a little over a year if they're prepared to put in the effort.
Personally I started ordering kit to replicate Apw1210's trolley system around the end of May, done many a...
As long as the items are in stock, turnaround from China isn't too bad despite the long (6+ weeks) lead times that may be stated on sites like Amazon.
You're probably looking at 9-10 days in reality.
Google suggests urine is the solution to lead flashing. Something to do with the high sulphur content. Bottle some of your own brand up and give it a squirt or jump on the windowsill and take aim.
Could be a **** take though. ?
As Apw1210 says it's relatively straight forward

The only real issue I came across was the eMylo wireless relay (R121A) wiring didn't match the wiring diagram provided for the generic relay. Instead it needed to be wired like the image below. For the avoidance of doubt counting...
It may be an idea to update that wiring diagram. My assumption was the same as Dave's:
Can't see anything between the battery and the cutoff switch on the positive line on your diagram.
Going to update my own build to add an additional fuse on the positive line. You can never be too cautious.
Not an electrician but from what I've read online it's hotly debated but either is fine as the circuit is broken without both positive and negative feeds.
In addition the Maypole charger recommended comes with 2 fused leads, both on the positive line. I converted one of them (still fused on...
Been building this myself for a startup having received all the parts in the last few days. Thanks for posting @Apw1210.
I had a bit of trouble visualising it myself @ShaneBlavins so put in a way I could easily understand based on the layout. Hope this helps.
Note: the wireless relay is an...
