Hey guys so i wanna use a 4040 RO from the mains now i currently have a 300 one but i wanna upgrade but i had to use an external pump to increase the water psi i was wondering would i be able to run a 4040 RO on anything less than 90psi coming from the tap ?

What is your tap water pressure? You will need to get a pressure gauge and measure it.

Here's an example.

How many liters per minute of tap water do you get from the tap that is going to supply your r/o water?

if i use my outside tap which i normally do which is connected to the mains it comes in at 8 litres a min

but if i use my sink tap which has alot more pressure it comes in at 13 litres a min

Then you need to identify why. It could be because the outside tap is plumbed into a pipe using a clamp that pierces a small hole in the pipe which will restrict the flow.

Here is an example

It shouldn't make any difference to the pressure though.

8 liters of water is boarder line but 13lpm is good. At 45psi you may need to invest in a booster pump. If you are going down the route of a 4040 then you seriously need to consider an HF5 membrane. Mine works fine on 50 psi without a booster, 2lpm of pure with 2lpm of waste. At 45psi the membrane might be slightly less efficient but I would suck it and see first before buying a booster pump.

i currently have a 250gpd with a booster pump but i use the outside tap, if i use it without the booster pump its terrible lol but i want to upgrade as my work load is starting to increase

but your right the outside tap is a lot smaller hole which will restrict the flow of water i was wondering if i add a pipe which will make the hole larger in diamaitor will that help the pressure ?, also the kit you just linked me to would that be better than what i currently have ?

It wouldn't change the pressure but it will increase the flow.

The copper pipe the take off clamp is clamped to need to be cut and a compression T piece fitted. Another short length of copper pipe goes though the wall and joined at the tap.

These small r/o's tend to be very slow. As I said earlier, I would buy an HF5 membrane and see how it goes before going down the booster pump route.
