The beginning of the rim is always a good guide

make sure it is not packed tight other wise it will form chanels and not use all the resin.

A good guide is can you shake it so as to move all the resin around, then you have reached a good limit

I was told to put as much in as you can get when i started, but i have never actually done this. I wasnt convinced it was the best practise, and doing this also makes it very difficult to get the tube thing back in the vessel after changing, so i tend to leave about 4" clearance.
