Been asked about painting the outside of someones house. I have a mate who's just left his job and thought he could do it. Has the tools etc.

How do you quote for an external painting job?

    Thanks

I would quote for three days work if its masonry only. More if you are doing wooden windows and doors plus materials.

    1 day to prepare
    1 day first coat
    1 day top coat

This was how I have done it in the past. These days I just don't take on such jobs. Messes up the window cleaning routine.

This is pretty much it for the average house^. I don't price by the square metre, I price by days. It sounds obvious but exterior painting is very weather dependant, more so then the windows. And you'll need 3 or more days uninterrupted, so google weather is your friend. Work in the shade/darker side of the property where ever possible.
