im looking to get a cheep runaround for fishing ect and wrk if my vivaro is down again lol what do u think is cheeper to inshore extate car or small van:confused:

Escort van in good nic or estate maybe mondeo are good options I reckon in the sub £800 category - insurance would be low I reckon about £150-200 with no claims

Van is always the best for work, but in terms of insurance, car is cheaper,

I'd never go back to a car though, well I literally couldn't being wfp anyway!

Agree. I've got a 500 l tank with 2 mounted reels either Side, trolley system with 3 barrels, backpack, homemade rack holding four poles, hot water system, battery and pump etc. Try getting that lot in a car!

Exactly that, impossible!

Plus, personally

(and I know this will offend some, BUT, I'm entitled to my opinion)

having a car and turning up to some of my commercial jobs would be detrimental to my business, I know for a fact a few of my commercial customers would have never took me on if they seen me turn up in a car, it just looks a bit unprofessional, and I'm sorry if that offends, but it's just how people view businesses...

I had a car for years and years, and it was fine, but it didn't help me get come commercial work, because I looked like a pikey lol

Had lots of people comment on how nice the sign written van looks and many people come up and ask me about jobs when seeing it, whereas that hardly ever happened with a car, (even with magnetic signs)

No offence car people, just a fact of life, people are judgemental and they will always view a smart van as a safer more pro window cleaner, sad fact of life, cos ultimately, we're all equal, but we live in a world of snobs and material judgements...

Makes sense, while its not for everyone, a sign written van says 'I'm this person and I do this and I'm committed to it' before the van door opens. Whether the person turns out to be a *** or not or do a better job is immaterial, the impression has been made

I agree. As I've said on here before, I have my van van and tops all sign written. Because I cover affluent areas, to them I think it makes a difference.

Yeah that's just it, affluent areas defo expect it, it shows an attitude of professionalism and investment, people love that, they love the posh window cleaner van parked outside there house in those areas...

Sad but true

Think outside the box.

Get a smaller van suitable for fishing but at last minute could be used for window cleaning when your van next goes wrong

I've noticed a lot of auto parts shops use escort vans as run arounds

Conversely though an 'affordable' looking outfit might be the way to go, car or unwritten older van might say 'affordable, skill over tech' etc. A snazzy van might back fire in certain settings, be a target for theft too

@Damo thats the ider m8 i have a fiat punto at the minit but its cramped when its loaded with fishing gear and its to small so its going , im thaults were small van like escort or berlingo as there idel to plod about in but if my vivaro goes in garage again i can just load it up the small van with barrows and a back pack to keep me wrking wile big van is geting fixed ect its the cost tho inshorence i have 6 years no clames on my van but onlt 1 year no clams on my car so im like not shore wich would b beta

ive just loaded my other halfs honda jazz with the fishing gear and its a idel size to b honist so its a toss up honda jazz or escort van/berlingo ?????/emoticons/biggrin.png the jazz has handled 250l of water these last to weeks no prob ladders dog and me with some trad gear just not shore lol

View attachment 5801 i like the DW8 peugeot partner/berlingo and iv just bought another one ^ elkectric windows for a change is that a primitive gun rack behind the cab-i will never know but the honda jazz car beats it hands down for reliability . i know that as my missus has one and nobody needs to be tweeaking it at weekends like you do a berlingo

my last berlingo van had a mysterious water leak,i was topping it up EVERY morning for over 2 yrs ridiculous but whats 2 minutes of each day thats how i looks at it . altho still a great runner and in daily use id not sell it to my worst enemy and when it goes i will take the hit let the scrapman take it
