Do fan jets use more water than pencil jets or are they just a row of smaller holes

You can set the actual ‘water flow rate’ the same, for either fan or pencil jets (depending on the sizes of jets available).
Depending on the users, you can use more water with fans because they can be slower to use overall, i.e. you spend more time cleaning, so you use more water.
