Once you have cut-off and removed the end cap you can then slide on the extra section. If you then want to remove it again you would need to buy another end cap (£1.45 - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/End_Caps.html) and push-fit this back when not using the extra section.
