Hi guys,

Been getting into WFP over the last couple of months, but manually filling 25l barrels every night from twin DI's is doing my head in.

So, going to order a few bits :

A 1000 ltr IBC from these guys

http://www.toucanenvironmental.co.uk/1000-litre-clear-ibc.html

But will need a submercible pump that fits through the top so I can pump to the barrels, any recommendations?

Also do I need to buy any connections for the IBC, they sell some stuff on here but not sure what I would need? http://www.toucanenvironmental.co.uk/accessories.html

Most submersible pumps are too big to get in the standard IBC tank without some DIY cutting. One sub that might fit through is one of Clarke Hippos.

Cleanz, I'm in the same position as you. I need a pump to. My IBC opening is 5 1/2". Most of those pumps are too big. I even went to my local machine mart and actually measured them. That hippo I think is too big.

I have been looking on ebay etc. and found 1 pump which would fit but was over £70. So I have a choice of cutting open the hole to larger size or get a small pond pump, or a 12v bilge pump which will easily fit, but the water flow is not as good as those clarke models.

Thanks for the info, by a stroke of luck I didn't purchase one earlier - because the machinemart site didn't take Paypal (and I wanted to use up a Paypal balance!).

I have been looking at this from Screwfix :

http://www.screwfix.com/p/ttb582pmp-400w-automatic-dirty-water-pump/65041

but like you say it will probably be a case of cutting a flap on the top of the IBC... wasn't keep on doing that but looks like there might not be a choice :\

Yeh those pumps with the side fitting wont fit. You need one with the outlet at the top. Even then it needs to be a narrow fit.

I've seen this 12v pump which is 1100gph which is equal to 4163 lph or 69 lpm but more like 50 lpm with a 1 metre rise.

By the way Posh I have thought about putting my IBC tank on blocks and use the taps to go into 25l containers, but it seems to raise the IBC tank really high.

I have a 210 liter water butt in my garden, and to fill my 7l watering can takes ages especially as it gets low in water lol.

edit: also just a thought. But when I get a van with a 350 litre tank I will need a fast transfer rate to fill it up, so a pump is essential.

I'm just gonna cut a flap into the top of the IBC when it arrives and get that pump from screwfix. I just need water stored/available to be pumped asap, running up and down stairs in a town house to the garage to check 25l barrels has been really doing my head in for a couple of months lol.

Can the pump remain in the tank at all times? or do I need to put it in when it's needed?

Haha, yep I've wasted a few litres here and there. Sat down, cup of tea - watching tv just starting to relax....... FFS THE BARRELS!!!

not just that i put something on the roof of my car and think i will forget that and think no, now i wont , and of course i do.....and this is only seconds later....i m too :eek:ldy:

Still haven't got round to buying a pump, have you got one yet? If this bilge pump does the job I might go with that, but it doesn't look like it's got a standard hose connection on it?

Hang on so (silly question but just want to be 100% sure), I just put one end of this attatched to IBC via that hose, atatch the the other connection on the pump to hose which then goes to my 25litre barrels?

Never mind, yes it does do what I need /emoticons/smile.png Only thing is I've read you don't get the right connections with it for hozelock etc? Seems people are having to buy those as it's a non standard Karcher connection?

Hi Cleanz.

Sorry I've not got back to u sooner.

I havn't bought a pump yet but will need to in the next week or so.

That bilge pump kicks out some good flow, but like u say it is an odd size hose 1 1/8th which sound like an american size. U can get the hose of ebay but it is fairly expensive.

I might go for a pond pump rated at 3000 lph which is 50 lpm so 2 25l containers in a minute.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/All-Pond-Solutions-Submersible-Aquarium-Water-Pumps-NEW-/400330159563?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PondsWaterFeatures_UK&var=&hash=item5d358975cb

Or I might go for this 12v one which is very small but only rated at 30 lpm to 1 container every minute, and it has 19mm or 3/4" hose which is standard from ebay or local marine outlet. I'm thinking this little 12v one might be handy for both ibc and when I get a van with tank it can also pump out of tank into containers if I need to use trolley.
