Just been on Gardiners website to purchase an item,     Item = £27,    delivery = £7.75,      VAT = £7.05      is this  vat right      i got it at 20%  =  £5.40   am i missing something

so for a £27 item will cost me £42 30.           i know you get free postage with orders over £50

Can these companys  give loyalty points ,     every £10       say £50p      as 1 point for us to use when ordering under a certain price as to cover some of our delivery costs.

Yeah the delivery companies charge vat to them so it gets passed along. I always compare eBay prices first if the item is on there especially for connectors and small stuff like that.
