I wondered when a hot water thread would start, I'm surprised @Pjj didn't beat you to it πŸ˜…

I have been thinking about whether to put one in my tank as I have had it for over a year now so it is most likely out of warranty, @THL4KEL was good enough to give me the hole cutter he used to do his when it came to installing the HD security rollers in my van last year, is yours a 2kw element?

I have hot water but it's not worth cleaning when it's like this one the roads are bad and two customers just complain 3 you look desperate.

Depends were you are, no snow and clear roads for me but I been out in worse,

Why on earth would customers complain and you have the impression that anyone working through the bad weather is desperate going out and earning a living

Minus temperatures are set to continue into mid December. That mindset is great for a one man band with only himself to look after. For people who employ they would lose any and all employees if they couldn't pay them for several weeks. They would go bankrupt if they did pay them not to work.

I respect your decision not to work but I disagree that it looks desperate. I think it looks professional to carry on where possible. I think some would say it looks lazy if you cry off every time it's cold. I imagine a lot of people would question the reliability of that window cleaner.

Does the bin man not turn up because it's cold, or telecoms people or what other tradies stays at home because of a bit off frost..
I see your point but I've been in the situation of going out working in **** weather and had my van smashed into which effected work way longer than a day off for 5 years my premiums went up even though it wasn't my fault. So if your happy to take the risk crack on i will just go put a log on the fire whilst a wait for more replies

Yes I suppose I take back the desperate part for more than one man bands
I'm the main earner in my house I have a wife to support mortgage to pay etc, I'm not desperate I'm making sure I am fulfilling my services to my customers who's appreciate my reliability!!

Customers have called me mad but never desperate and not one has complained.

"it all begins and ends in your own mind"

Yes mate 2kw heater I don’t have it set high, as it’s only for stopping the water freezing and help keep the hose warm and supple honestly does help last job of the day was an unheated barn conversion x2 skylights both were still frozen and the water melted the ice of them immediately.

kept me going as normal the last two days where as my son as gone out later for it to warm up.

That's my thinking, I ain't bothered about hot water just warm to make the day more manageable.

It was - 6c this morning which wasn't forecast, so like your son I had to wait till it warmed up, I had jobs with unheated connys and porches first thing so played it safe.

I got a decent walk out for an hour with our dog so that was a bonus.

I take it the customers your talking about stop working if it gets cold too?. Do they think we just call up the mortgage provider, van payment etc and say, it was a bit cold this month so I decided to knock it on the head. Any chance just leaving my bills this month?.

I only use my heater in icy conditions, so this week it has been very handy when winding the hoses in etc.
Don’t need to turn on the oil filled radiator either as the tank is acting as a heater πŸ‘πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ¦°

Minus temperatures aren’t expected down here. Just watched the bbc London weather and it’s forecasted to be above freezing at night next week and sunny with temperatures around 10-12 degrees.
Best get my factor 50 back out 😎

In all honesty I've not been in this week despite it being really cold, I have not had the desire or need to, I might jump in tomorrow as I'll have a some spare time and it will be nice sunrise in the morning and a tad warmer at 1c
