Help!!

Am pulling my hair out

As some of you may know I've acquired an merlin ro second hand.

I have put new filters in it & added a 125psi booster pump but it still just trickles out.

Am I missing a trick here or is this right.

I'm losing what hair I got left over this.

I just cannot work it out.

I'll try put a video on of the set up.

what is your water pressure?

what is the pressure after the booster pump?

I think the pump you got is no good for the merlin as its makes pure water at a very hi rate, and the pump you have will not keep up with it?

Not sure what the pressure is but I thought a 125 psi pump would be enough. Maybe I was wrong.

I spose it will have to just trickle out as I'm not paying £300 for a booster pump even tho it would probably work.

With the new filters do they need bedding in as I've only run it for a couple of hours

I'm gonna put some proper connections on it tomorrow instead of a garden hose each end held with a jubilee clip lol.

It will be your pump. How many litres per minute does it do

I could use the merlin at mine where I'm not so much in a hurry.

Can you have 2 booster pumps on 1 ro

My vyair 200 one already has a booster pump on it. Can I add this other one so there's 2

this pump is no good m8, on the merlin pure water comes out at 1.9LPM and 4LPM waste, you will have to get a bigger booster pumps, i looked for 7 days online, but there just isnt anything that will do the job, so i emailed Alex at gardiners, and i had to get the one that they said,

The PRF-RO, the replacement to the Merlin RO system, has been designed to meet the requirements for smaller, more robust RO systems.

The PRF-RO incorporates two high flow membrane elements in series to produce an average of 1.9 lpm of purified water, protected by a carbon impregnated Fibredyne pre-filter delivering a capacity of 38,000 litres.

• Up to 2,600 litres per day of on-demand purified water
  
• Works on mains pressure from just 50psi (3.2 bar) - Best performance is achieved when mains pressure is 80psi (5.5bar)

i had the same problem m8, i had to buy a booster, witch i wasn't expending to buy, but if you get the right booster pumps its very good, 6 hours to make 1000 liters of pure water.

The link for the booster pump you bought @Posh says in bold red letters;

"PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL ONLY RUN REVERSE OSMOSIS UNITS WITH A MEMBRANE OF 100 US GALLONS PER DAY OR LESS."

 


So I would say that it won't supply enough water to run your 200gpd r/o because that's what the supplier says.

Water pressure and water flow aren't the same although they are related.

That's why you need the booster pump @craig at pure linked you to from Gardiners. It will work and the Merlin will give you an ample supply of water, albeit less efficiently than a 4021 or 4040.

We are in the business of cleaning windows and to do the job we need to have more than enough water to do that job. If you don't then its a vicious spiral downhill as you aren't earning enough to grow or expand. You understand that as you bought a bigger r/o.

As a trad cleaner you can get away with minimal equipment expenditure, but once you go wfp you need to be fully committed to the process.

As @doug atkinson says, you will be better off connecting your Merlin directly to the tap.

For a single operator processing into an IBC tank (1000 liters) a 450GPD was good enough. The minimum I could have got away with was a 300GPD but only just. As it was the 450GPD was running most of the time during the week.

My own experience was that our r/o ended up being too small to cope with growth as we expanded. It stifled our business. My focus every day was how we would get through the week with the water we needed. When I eventually invested in a 4040 I couldn't believe the difference in production. That 450GPD should have been retired years before it was. It worked great, it was just too slow producing water and not enough to supply our needs.
