they have made it a whole 11g lighter

The Mk3L is a little lighter, it's all in the right direction! We also worked on it to resolve the metal on metal thread issue that some have had (recommended using electrical tape around the male thread so that the threads bite). The new components needed to be tested thoroughly before we were happy with them.

We're always working on improvements, but there won't be a Mk4 for a while yet.

They're an alternative to Rectus 21 connectors, but lighter (which is what made me think of them /emoticons/wink.png) and don't need to have male and female replaced at the same time. We had them recommended by some customers, got a fairly small amount in and they sold out quickly, so we've got some more. looks good, but being plastic wouldnt they wear out quicker than the metal ones?

If you have a look at the reviews by Jouk45 and Dave you'll see that they've been using them for quite a while. I'd expect them to last at least as long as longer than Rectus 21 and equivalent connectors.
