Ladder Help.

Hi

Am just starting up Trad round, what would be a suitable size

and make of aluminium ladder.

Also how much roughly would you charge for Bay Window, standard

sized window, and patio window.

Is there a maximum height, for working with Ladders with all this

health and safety carry on.

the maximum height that is covered by standard ladder insurance is 10 metres , way higher than you need for normal domestic work.

i personally like using 10 rung double trade ladders for the day to day ordinary houses . i also carry a triple 10 rung for higher jobs .10 rungs is not very heavy to use all day long and small enough to get down an alleyway and round the corner into a back yard easily.

i use LYTE trade ladders,i got into these after reading on the forums that they were strong but not too heavy and are used by many windies . iv several sets these days and rate the LYTE trades as very good ladders

on pricing,my tip is dont ever go below a price of £1 per complete window or door as you will regret it- if you price too low you are undervaluing your time. i currently price at 1.50 or 2 quid per complete window [whether its a bay or titchy stairway window] a lot depends on my mood / how the customer comes across at the time.

you should also keep in mind "your bottom line" that is the very minimum charge that you have to do anything ,just the 1 window perhaps,no matter how small. mine is £5

How much do you charge for the insides, also if you get

a day of wet weather and you can't work do you do that

work the following day or whatever.

I use double 13 rung ladders perfect for all windows plus for larger windows you can go above the window as well and ladder still feels safe

Not very heavy ladders think the make is Titan trade ladders

And on all my ladders I've added feet to the ladders don't trust the feet on some ladders that you can buy

I charge about £1 a window depending on how often they want the windows cleaned

And depending on what area the house is in

i charge exactly the same for insides as outsides , mainly because that saves me having to remember different prices . wet weather-work carries on the same in wet weather[unless its a proper Proper downpour,not drizzley rain ] in which case we sit in van till it slows up a bit and then resume work.

i havnt called a whole day off in living memory,theres Always work to be done , including doling out leaflets as a back up

Lyte ladders are very well made. I have all the sizes in my local hardware store and I feel like buying one every time I walk past them. Probably the best I have seen material wise, and the rungs are nice and thick so a lot more comfortable in use.

I've not worked for ocado since the end of last summer boar

My mate is a manager at a pharmaceutical delivery company

I was delivering to chemists

I have a set of 7 rung triples which reach all 1st floor jobs i do

I am now using my pole for the townhouses i do and have a diy wfp pole and brush in progress for fascias gutters etc as i can use tap water for that

I am not doing gutter clearing for a while until i can get a guttervac

Am not going high on ladders anymore as i have had enough of that ..26 years now

About time to stop that lark

Anyways there is so much window work round here i don't need the gutter jobs anymore

Was getting a van and wfp with my remortgage but after being approved i sat down and worked out i would be paying well over the odds for the next 10 years until my mortgage is paid

Decided i can wait and save up as it will be cheaper than the extra i will be paying for 10 years

Just getting enough for the big conservatory instead of both

But am gradually weening myself off ladder work

I have no problem with 1st floor work but no higher anymore
