    Hi Guys,

Went to have a look at a big job today and as soon as I looked at the frames and the fact that the fourth floor is dorma windows straight away I said "Your looking at having to bring and access platform in for this." to which he said "Fine, give me a quote then!"

Only problem is I've never hired one before, I've spent thousands of hours using them but never hired one. How do I sort the insurance out for it or does it come as part of the hire charge? I was hoping to get a 17 metre nifty but I'm not licensed to tow it. Any advice?

you would have to check you own insurance to see if that covers you in using one, i know my insurance doesn't it comes as an extra.
are you trained to use one by yourself? if not then you would need a bloke with you that is.
some companies do deliver them for you but its all extra cost

can you not wfp the windows???

As I say the top floor is all Dorma windows, the rest of the windows all have chipped painted frames. I am trained to use the machine and also my Dad holds his I.P.A.F. license so I could get him on site.

I've been asked to price it by a local contract cleaning firm for a local housing association so I might provide them with a quote for water fed pole with an advisory and then give one for cleaning them out the access platform.

thats good then at least you can save money there and not have to hire a guy with it.

when you say fourth floor, do you mean 1 ground floor then 3 floors above? or 1 ground floor and 4 floors above it?

It's an older building basically the same as that but twice the length and the Dorma windows are set back in the roof. The windows are disgusting and the frames are in a bad way and there is loads of chipped paint on them.

If that is the case I think you should get away with a WFP on it really.

The only thing I'm worried about is this is my first clean for the cleaning company and also the housing association and this building is one of four buildings on the site and I presume that they want this doing as a tester. So I really don't want to **** it up

Just take your time on it and rinse a little more. At the end of the day treat it like all your work you do. With the flats I do I tell them each time in finish them and invoice them that if there is any problems let me know and I'll come and put it right.
