Making pure

Like some others on here I still hybrid clean my round with a backpack for difficult or dangerous access stuff. The vast majority is trad and I get through about two hundred litres a month (only part time windie).

At the moment I have a friend working in a unit that makes jet engine cleaner and somewhere in the process they produce pure. For the past couple of years I've been dropping empty barrels on his doorstep and they arrive on mine full. I'm sure if he minded he would say something but I feel I'm imposing and he won't even let me clean his windows in exchange. What I need to know is; what do I need to buy to make my own pure, what's the easiest/cheapest way to do it considering the small quantities I use? Who are the best retailers for what I need? Alternatively, the city I work in has a large cleaning company that sell pure for £3.60 for 100 litres.

You use around 200L a month and can buy it for £3.60 for a hundred??

Save the messing around with filtration and buy it

You're probably right, I don't have a clue what it costs to buy the stuff to make my own though.

One of the reasons for considering making my own is the convenience factor of not having to rely on anyone for my supply and I might be inclined to use a lot more if I had a ready supply.

No matter which way you decided to go if you are using so say pure water you still need a tds meter so buy one of these first which you will know is not going to be a fake copy.

Once you have one then find out what the tds is of the tap water you will be using and let us know.

The water supply has been a limiting factor in doing a lot more WFP. My mate has been great supplying me but if I was to leave four barrels on his doorstep every night I think I might put a strain on our friendship. Buying the stuff from the other place would also be a bit of a ball ache.

yes it may be the best way out to just say you can now make your own..

mine with ro and filters only cost me £130 ish and on the amount you are using will last for ages without touching it..

I probs use 200 litres a week at present but as smurfy will say...its going to go up....but for the price I paid I cant moan..

it takes me at the mo one hour twenty to fill a 25 litre barrel...

of course...it takes longer in the winter ..ta sprucey...

Unless you know what yout tap water ppm is it's pointless to buy a ro as you may not need one if you live in a soft water area as twin di's may be all that you need

yes it may be the best way out to just say you can now make your own..Do you have a pump connected to it? I saw a kit with a pump on it. Am I right in thinking they put that before the filter to speed the process up or do they put it after the filter?

I'm going to look into this. Pretty sure we are in a hard water area down here. There was another WFP operator who used to make from the same supply that I plan to use, think I'm going to have a chat with him.

just go DI straught from your tank

Because resin costs 75ish a bag and passing 250 - 450 ppm tap water through a di tank or two will not work out cheap no matter how little water you use surely?

I'm sure in the bigger picture a wfp window cleaner don't just use 200 litres of pure a month now do they @Duncs ? It will be only a matter of time before 500 ish litre of pure is the norn per working day. /emoticons/tongue.png

Buying water is no longer an option, the cleaning companies advertising on their websites aren't able to supply at my convenience. Looking at my water companies website I believe I'm in a hard water area with a TDS of around 210. Been looking at some websites get the equipment to make my own supply, don't really know what I need to get, I could speak to the salesmen and take their advice but would like a bit of knowledge before I start parting with the readies. Anyone recommend good companies to talk to?

Funny you are in about using more water . When I first started wfp I used about 50 litres a day I thought at the time it was lot . Now I'm up to 250 /300 litres per working day .

With the hard water your RO won't produce 005 water more like 015-020. So if you start out using twin dis for the moment you will be able to use them in the future when you decide to buy an RO, first one knocking it down from 020 to 010 second one doing less work.

For 50l a week i'd buy two refurbished di vessels off ebay.

Finding a local windy who is willing to sell you pure water
