Hi guys,

I'm thinking about investing in a pressure washer and rotating floor cleaning. How much is a good rate ? Do you charge per square metre? Im thinking just offering this service for block paving and patio slab areas. With adding the kiln sand , do you go back the next day when dry and then seal? Do you use any cleaning liquid when pressure washing? What type of sealer do you use and how to apply?

Sorry for all the questions !!!

Hello Charlie,

I do a lot of block paving cleaning,re-sanding & sealing and other pressure washing. Typical rates (south east) are £6-£8 per sq m including sand and seal. Unless there's oil stains I don't bother with cleaning products because the water pressure should be enough,

Yes,do the sand and seal at same time once dry. If it's still wet the sand doesn't flow properly and it may cause a reaction with the sealant and white staining. If middle of summer you might get away doing it all the same day,and some contractors do,but until you get the hang of it I'd recommend coming back the next day.

I use Resiblock Trade sealant and spraying on is quickest and easiest application but get one with viton seals otherwise the sealant destroys typical garden pump sprays, but they are good for at least one use and rinse after with clean water. Much easier than a roller which take longer and they can pick up sand from joints and spread over the blocks.

If you want a petrol powered machine with a rotary cleaner you will need something with high water delivery and if you can afford it,great.

But it's not essential and you can start with much lower investment and upgrade as business grows. It just means jobs take a bit longer.

Hope this helps.
