Shurflo pump lifespan??

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Now, I'm not saying this to wind-you-up :hehehe:....honest .......

but both my battery's over 3 years old AND have a Sureflow pump at 3 years old and a Flojet pump about 2 years old...all working fine ...../emoticons/biggrin.png.

My pump is going fine by sound, but flow is ***** straight from pump hose before any other connection ie: di vessel or hose reel etc.

How do u charge your batteries? What charger, how often, SCR?? Tell me all the details....

When my batteries need a good charge (ie after a hard/long day's use, which is not often /emoticons/smile.png), I'll charge over-night with a little cheapo 6amp trickle charger bought for £10.00 from a local car-spares shop......an 'AutoFactors' I think you modern-day youngsters call them .

I also have one of these 12v solar panels attached to the sun visor, this is constantly trickle charging the battery....even when parked-up and not working .....

ps

the idea for the 12v solar panel charger came from Damo (he's back on here now) a while ago and works great :thumbsup:.

Positive .....no pun intended /emoticons/wink.png.

That sounds interesting, Bingo. So you leave the clips permanently on the battery then?

Yup .....always connected......these solar panels are still charging even on an overcast day.

May be time to ditch my split charge relay for this then!

I don't use a split charge relay as I only do short time journeys....I'm parked-up more than I'm driving, all my work is local to me....that's why I'm home a lot /emoticons/wink.png.......

but if you're spending time traveling, keep the split relay for charging while driving and the solar panel for 'trickle' charging when van parked-up .

These little solar panels are only 'TRICKLE' charging.....but constantly.

[emoji106] Sounds a great idea! Damn, it's so good to be able to talk to people!!! Gonna invest in one. I've only just invested £90 in a ctec charger which also came recommended from here in favour of my Halfords one which I'm told is *****.

Also...how the hell is one supposed to know how many miles driving is sufficient enough using a SCRelay??? Winds me up all this probability ballsack.

Been using a solar panel for years and defo recommend one,

I also use a smart charger, so far my battery has lasted 2 years, it's starting to lose charge faster now, but still going strong, should see me till winter!

Blimey. I wish, I wish! Maybe I've been over-charging!! I dunno. Lol

I have 2 Shurflo pumps on the van. The first is a 3.8 LPM bought in the days before controllers were available. Its over 9 years old and in daily use. The other is 5.2 lpm Shurflo and is nearly 8 years old, also in daily use.

My son's van has a Shurflo pump which is also 8 years old and the Shurflo in son in law's van is nearly 4 years old. It has also frozen up a couple of times as he forgets (or couldn't be bothered) to drain it down each evening during the winter.

Because we have 4 pumps on the go I bought another as a spare. Its been sitting on top of the cupboard in my office for the past 3 and a 1/2 years. I also have a Varistream electronic controller next to it, bought at the same time.

The only issue we ever experienced with Shurflo pumps was the pressure switches would burn out fairly often. I think the 3.8 LPM pump still has a burned out micro switch in the housing as I ordered one of the early analogue Varistream controllers because of the issue.

In those days we didn't know about the £2.99 replacement available from Maplins, so we replaced the whole P/S switch and housing at around £25.00 in those days.
