Soaping up a window

Hi folks, I'm new here, this is my first post.

I recently saw a Utube video about soaping up a window and how doing it properly can eliminate your detailing drastically.

They were saying soap all the window but leave a small 1 inch gap around the edge, so when squeegeeing you can get all the water off leaving only the sill to wipe at the bottom. They argue that the squeegee carries the water close enough to the edges for the window to be fully cleaned.

I am interested to know if this is how most people do it as the sides of my frames have soap on from my aggressive soaping lol which leads me to have loads of detailing and frame wiping as my squeegee technique is not that good ATM. I only started 3 months ago.

This is how i do it

Because i always clean the frames i am not careful with the applicator unless it is really hot and sunny

I soap up then wipe the frames over which also takes the excess water away from the edge near the glass

Then squeegee

get a porcupine washer this will help and soap just short of top frame this will help prevent runs down window

yeah @daveyboy1 they hold a bit less soap/water but it suits me and they scrub great :thumbsup:

I soap up the same way as Daveyboy. I don't mind the detailing as it gets me perfects results, and any run off on the frame helps to clean those too.

I got an unger monsoon with my starter kit and recently bought another as my first one was getting real dirty after a few houses (albeit they were first cleans). Will try the porcupine or unger Ninja next.

Make it sooner rather then later mate, its a great sleeve.

The porkypine has plastic bristles that stick out through the normal sleeve

Brilliant for scrubbing glass

Windows with a lot of crap on that i used to scrape off now i soap with porky wipe the frames which gives glass a few seconds to soak then quick 2nd scrub with porky without touching edges

Hardly need to get the scraper out now

Roger that Tolish. Looking forward to trying out your advice now guys. Have to say since starting w/c I'm really enjoying it and look forward to my next time cleaning. I get a sense of pride. It's only a part time thing for me but still really getting into it. Browsing posts on this site has really helped so cheers everyone.
